WHEN NOT TO USE THE ACCUSATIVE CASE

The most basic explanation will be that we do not use the accusative case when there is no specific object in the sentence. .
Many NOUN+VERB combinations work like a kind of phrasal verbs in Turkish. For example, "kitap okumak" is simply the name of the activity of reading a book, without a specific book name mentioned. Therefore, we do not apply the accusative case. .
This topic may get a bit confusing but I hope you will get used to it over time. It is more a matter of practice than memorising, do not be scared.

THE ACCUSATIVE CASE

I need to say that I am sorry. Those of you who follow this profile already know this topic. However, I needed to reupload it because instead of "the accusative case", I called it "the passive voice" (since the object is passive, not active). Sorry for that.

The accusative case is used to show the object of an action and it is pretty simple to do:
1) if the last letter of the word is a consonant, we simply add I/İ/U/Ü according to the vowel harmony.
2) if the last letter is a vowel, we add YI/Yİ/YU/YÜ in order to avoid having two vowels next to each other.
3) In some cases we use "n" instead of "y" between the vowels - we will come back to it in the next post.

New words:
*satmak - to sell
* övmek - to praise

LIFE ISN'T ONLY ABOUT GRAMMAR - HERE YOU HAVE SOME REAL-LIFE DIALOGUES

I think that we run too fast.with all that grammar. It is time for some dialogues. Inter-generational family convos should do just fine for this purpose.

Of course, this isn't to say that there is no new grammar in this post. The sentences revolve around negative sentences which utilise -mı/mi/mu/mü like in adjective and around questions in present tense.

The structure of positive and negative questions is as follows
Ben: Yapıyor muyum // Yapmıyor muyum?
Sen: Yapıyor musun // Yapmıyor musun?
O: Yapıyor mu // Yapmıyor mu?
Biz: Yapıyor muyuz // Yapmıyor muyuz?
Siz: Yapıyor musunuz // Yapmıyor musunuz?
Onlar: Yapıyorlar mı // Yapmıyorlar mı?

New words:
* çöp - trash
* oğul - son
* hatırlatmak - to remind
* özür dilerim - I am sorry
* hep - always, every time
* poşet - bag
* kapı - door
* ön - front
*kapının önü - in front of the door
* koymak - to put
* yaramazlık yapmak - to fool around
* yemin etmek - to swear, to make oath
* hemen - instantly
* götürmek - to take/carry
* konteyner - container
* bugün - today
* pazar - Sunday / bazaar
* hasta - ill/sick
* gelmek - come
* sıkılmak - to be/get bored
* kahvehane - a coffee house frequented by middle-aged and old men (usually)

Translation 1:
A: My son, why don't you put the trash in front of the door? I remind you [of it] every day
B: I am sorry my mom, I always forget.
A: But you don't forget how to play with your friends and fool around.
B: I swear, I will take this trash bag to the container right now.
A: Take it or you aren't going out in the evening!

Translation 2 is all yours! Let's see how you fair. Show us the results in the comments, will you?

NEGATIVE SENTENCES IN PRESENT TENSE (ŞİMDİKİ ZAMAN)

The idea is pretty simple here. In order to create a negative sentence, we simply squeeze mı/mi/mu/mü (up to a vowel harmony) between the root of the verb and yor and add the personal suffix. Voilá!

New words used:
* neden? - why (if not a question word, it means "reason")
* konuşmak - to speak
* benimle - with me (we will cover it!)
* bir şey - something
* çizmek - scratch or draw with a pencil
* tanımak - know/recognise

You probably realise that in the 2nd and 3rd sentence there are mysterious letters attached to words "şey" (şeyi) and "o" (onu). They reflect the passive nature of these objects in sentences. We will come back to it soon. Stay tuned!
