Today is Mother Language Day.
Today, February 21, is International Mother Language Day, and it is a good moment for all of us to pause and reflect.
Our languages carry our stories, our wisdom, our humor, our prayers, and the way we see the world.
When a child speaks their mother tongue, they are not just communicating—they are standing in their identity.
When a language disappears, a whole way of life quietly fades with it.
Around the world, UNESCO reminds us that young people are key to keeping languages alive.
From villages to classrooms, youth are reclaiming their mother tongues, proudly using them, and passing them on.
This matters because learning works best when it happens in a language people truly understand.
It builds confidence, deepens learning, and helps every voice be heard.
Here in Liberia, we are blessed with many indigenous languages.
Yet many of them are at risk—not because they are weak, but because they are not being used enough, taught enough, or valued enough.
If we stop speaking them at home, stop teaching them to our children, or stop using them in schools and technology, they slowly disappear.
But it does not have to be that way. Each of us has a role to play. Speak your language at home.
Teach your children simple words and stories. Encourage schools to value local languages.
Support efforts that document, teach, and bring our languages into books, classrooms, and even technology and AI.
Language survival is not someone else’s job. It is our responsibility.
Let us choose to preserve, learn, and pass on our mother languages—so future generations will not have to ask what their language sounded like.
Our languages matter. Our voices matter. And together, we can keep them alive.
As always, we are committed to revitalizing, preserving, teaching, and promoting Liberian languages and ensuring that they are presented in the digital space.

The Liberian Language Institute (LLI)
We don't know how it will happen, but we are optimistic that in the not-so-distant future, we will build the LLI, where all Liberian languages will be taught.
To this aim, we will be hosting the first-ever National Language Day on March 14, 2026, to raise funds for this institution.
This is just an ideal campus, but we will share the actual blueprint with you in the near future.
The details of the event will be shared soon, so you can get prepared to attend and be part of history.
As always, we will count on you for your support, as we remain committed to revitalizing, preserving, and promoting Liberian languages.
Impact will always win!
