We are honored to host Joseph J. Kaminski* at our next IDE Talk this Friday, January 19 at 7 pm. Mr. Kaminski will present his recent study with the title "Reconceptualizing an Islamic Governed State"**

*Joseph J. Kaminski received his PhD in Political Science from Purdue University in 2014. He is originally from the United States (Northwest Indiana) and has been an Assistant Professor at the International University of Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina since September 2014. His research interests lie at the intersection of Political Theory and Comparative Politics/IR with a regional focus on the Muslim world.
**This presentation will go over the major theoretical arguments presented in Professor Kaminski's recent book, The Contemporary Islamic Governed State: A Reconceptualization (Palgrave, Series on Islamic Theology, Law and History, 2017). His work offered a normative reconceptualization of a modern Islamic governed state that rejects secular Enlightenment liberalism and instead is heavily grounded in Ancient Greek ideals of politics and political leadership. Despite heavily borrowing from Greek thought, the model offered remains firmly rooted in a Shari’ah-based, discursive ontological framework. This presentation will focus on exploring the elements that are essential in creating a functioning Islamic state, such as strong Aristotelian leadership, bureaucratic competence, women’s rights, social justice, and economic justice.
