This 3-min video ran on Peru national TV last night, and shows the support for Camden and his family we are receiving from the local community. We demand respect, accountability and justice for Camden, and that the companies responsible are held to account. Justice for Camden!

In the resort town of Huanchaco, a tribute was held for the young Canadian who died of electrocution. His father, visiting the site of the tragedy for the first time, called for justice:
“What I want people to remember about Camden is how supportive and generous he was.”
He couldn't hold back tears as he remembered his son Camden, a 20-year-old who died of electrocution on March 8, 2023, while leaving a surf session in Huanchaco, Trujillo.
“The negligence of two companies installing new power lines cost him his life.”
Vince Verlan received the news while working in Africa. He shared that his son had worked for two years in a café in Canada, his homeland, and saved money to travel for a year. Tragically, he met his death in Huanchaco due to alleged negligence.
“No one from the companies has taken responsibility, and this cannot be tolerated. Even worse, one company refused to respond to the local prosecutor’s request for information for a criminal case.”
“It’s a terrible and unimaginable accident; this could have happened to any young surfer, to any of us, or any fisherman coming out of the sea. His body was here, the cable was here, and I saw it. It’s gross irresponsibility and cannot happen again.”
Camden had set out to travel as part of his personal growth and came to Huanchaco to learn surfing and, above all, to rescue street dogs as a volunteer at a shelter.
“Camden came here to volunteer at a shelter that is now abandoned, and we, as the shelter ‘Huanchaco to the Rescue,’ take responsibility for these dogs. He did incredible work, and now his father is adopting two dogs from this shelter, which he will take to Canada because they were Camden’s favorites.”
This is the pair of dogs that Camden's father took to Canada to help ease the pain of losing his son. During his first visit to Huanchaco, he attended a mass organized by Camden's friends and demanded justice.
“The company Hidrandina thinks it can ignore and insult Camden’s memory, ignore and insult the officials representing this community. This is unacceptable, and we won’t allow it. I know you understand how important it is for me to win this fight. Please help us hold them accountable and seek justice.”
The case is still under preliminary investigation by the public prosecutor's office, but Camden’s family’s lawyers are even considering a civil lawsuit.
“This could have happened to anyone. Raising awareness and knowing that the companies in the criminal process refuse to accept responsibility, we are taking the necessary actions.”
This tragedy has devastated a family who, despite the distance, vows to not rest until justice is served for Camden.
