👉What motivates international students to stay in Canada after graduation?

✅Whether they are planning to study or are currently studying in Canada, international students are highly motivated to apply for Canada permanent residence and work after graduation, a new report suggests.

✅The report entitled, “Retaining International Students in Canada Post-Graduation: Understanding the Motivations and Drivers of the Decision to Stay,” is based on findings from two surveys: A World Education Services survey of prospective international students coming to Canada and a Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) Survey of international students currently studying at Canadian post-secondary institutions.

✅Survey results featured in the report show more than 50 per cent of prospective international student who responded to the survey plan to apply for Canadian permanent residence and work in Canada after graduation.

👉Canada introduces more study flexibility.

✅Three new measures have been introduced to help individuals pursue Canadian study and work opportunities amid the coronavirus pandemic.

✅Students can now study online while overseas up until April 30, 2021 with no time deducted from the length of their PGWP, so long as they complete 50 per cent of their studies in Canada.
Students who have signed up for a program that is 8-12 months in duration with a start date from May to September 2020 will be able to complete their entire program abroad and still be eligible for a PGWP.

✅Students who enrolled in a program with a start date between May and September 2020 and study online up to April 30, 2021 and who graduate from more than one eligible program may be able to combine the length of their programs of study when they apply for a PGWP, as long as 50 per cent of the studies are completed in Canada.

✅The PGWP is highly coveted among individuals who wish to study in Canada. After a student completes an eligible program at a Canadian designated learning institution (e.g., a university or college), they can obtain a PGWP for a maximum duration of three years. The ultimate duration of the PGWP depends on the length of time the individual studied at a Canadian DLI.

👉Canada Makes Major Study Permit Changes to Offer New Support For International Students

✅Ottawa has made further significant changes to help international students wishing to study in Canada start a new program online from this fall due to the coronavirus pandemic.

✅Changes to the Study Permit application process and to how time spent studying online counts toward a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) were announced on Tuesday, July 14.

✅They follow a number of other moves to support international students made by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) since the pandemic took hold in March.

✅“We value the contribution of young people seeking a high-quality education in Canada, and we’re making every effort to minimize how current challenges affect their plans and dreams for the future,” said Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino.

➡️ 2 % des étudiants étaient inscrits dans des établissements situés à l’extérieur du Canada ou dans des programmes de formation à distance

👉Foreign Students and Online Instruction: Canada's Approach

✅Last week, ICE announced that new incoming foreign students will be denied entry to the U.S. if their institution plans to deliver solely online coursework.
