When people think of Erasmus+, the most familiar image is university students on exchange between European capitals. But the programme reaches far wider. The Capacity Building in VET strand funds projects involving third countries, with the aim of strengthening vocational education and training systems where the need is greatest.

🌍 SHE-GROWS is precisely that. A project bringing together Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic and Tunisia around a concrete intervention: training 60 rural women in hydroponic agriculture and cooperative entrepreneurship in the regions of Béja and Jendouba. Not aid, but the shared building of skills.

🇹🇳 Tunisia is part of the European Union's Southern Neighbourhood, a priority area for cooperation. SHE-GROWS sits within this framework through a coherent approach: alignment with the FAO 2050 Water Strategy, with the European Digital Transformation Strategy 2025, with the EU's Global Gateway. Not statements of principle, but European instruments woven into the project's daily work, from EQF to ESCO, from Europass to EQAVET.

🔑 What makes this project significant within the Erasmus+ landscape is its replicability. The curriculum, the VET inclusion guidelines, the cooperative model, the Training of Trainers programme: all are transferable tools, applicable to other rural settings in Tunisia and across the wider Neighbourhood.

🧭 SHE-GROWS shows that international cooperation works when it starts from documented needs, builds solutions with the people who will use them and leaves behind structures that endure. Not a theoretical model, but a concrete practice that speaks from the Mediterranean to Europe, and back again.

What remains when European funding ends? SHE-GROWS built the answer into its own architecture, not as a final chapter but as a thread running throughout.

🏢 The cooperative remains. A real enterprise run by participants, with access to local markets and support from Association Femme Rurale Jendouba and APIA.

📖 The educational resources remain. Training materials, research and data will become open educational resources (OER) and open-source datasets, free to use and replicate.

🏫 The institutional capacity remains. Elemtiez's VET centre will have upgraded infrastructure, 18 qualified trainers and a certified curriculum. ATFP will work to integrate the materials into the national VET framework.

🔄 The model remains. The WP2 guidelines, the WP3 gender-sensitive curriculum and the WP4 Training of Trainers programme are replicable tools, transferable to other contexts.

🤝 The network remains. Every partner is committed to pursuing local, regional and national funding to sustain activities beyond the project's duration.

🌱 SHE-GROWS is an Erasmus+ Capacity Building project designed to outlast its own funding. Sustainability isn't a paragraph in the application form: it's the whole point of the work.

Training the trainers first ToT: mobility, competencies, lasting impact
There's a principle MeDCare applies consistently: an innovative curriculum isn't enough if those who teach it don't have the tools to do so effectively. 👩‍🏫

That's why, before the student pilot begins, MeDCare trains 20 Tunisian VET teachers and trainers through a Training of Trainers programme that includes mobility visits to Italy and Spain, online sessions, and hands-on workshops covering VR and digital technologies.

This isn't a standard professional development course. Participating trainers gain competencies in advanced teaching methodologies, e-learning platform delivery, and VR simulation applied to biomedical training. On completion, they receive verifiable digital credentials documenting their new skills. 🏅

Training the trainers means multiplying the impact. Every trainer who returns to Tunisia carries something transferable — to other colleagues, to future cohorts, well beyond the life of the project.

Simulating the operation of biomedical equipment without the equipment in the room. Practising complex technical procedures before performing them in a real setting. Repeating, correcting, learning — without risk. 🥽

These are the scenarios MeDCare's VR laboratories make possible in Tunisian training centres.

Virtual reality isn't a decorative feature of the project, nor a demonstration of technological ambition. It's a practical response to a practical problem: traditional biomedical laboratories are expensive to set up, expensive to maintain, and difficult to update as medical technologies evolve.

MeDCare installs two fully operational VR laboratories — at Elemtiez and ATFP — integrated with the e-learning platform and the EQF Level 5 curriculum. Immersive simulation becomes a structural component of the training programme, not an optional add-on. 🏗️

Double certification pour un double avenirDes compétences reconnues, et pas seulement acquises
Dans de nombreux milieux ruraux, la formation existe mais ne laisse aucune trace dans le système. Les gens apprennent, ils pratiquent, pourtant aucun document ne prouve ce qu'ils savent faire. Pour les femmes de Béja et de Jendouba, déjà désavantagées sur le marché du travail, cette invisibilité des compétences constitue un obstacle supplémentaire.
🎓 SHE-GROWS adopte une approche différente. À l'issue du programme, chaque participante recevra une double certification délivrée conjointement par Elemtiez formation un centre de formation professionnelle tunisien, et l'EFA El Soto, un centre de formation agricole espagnol. Il ne s'agit pas d'un simple certificat symbolique, mais d'un titre de portée internationale.
🌍 Cette initiative s'inscrit dans un cadre plus large. Le programme de formation est conçu conformément aux instruments européens tels que le CEC (Cadre européen des certifications), ESCO, Europass et EQAVET, garantissant que les compétences acquises soient lisibles et transférables au-delà du contexte tunisien. Un véritable pont entre formation locale et normes internationales.
🧰 La certification n'est pas le seul résultat concret. Chaque participante recevra également un kit de démarrage hydroponique pour commencer sa production immédiatement. La transition de la formation à la pratique n'est pas reportée à un avenir hypothétique : elle est intégrée directement au projet.
🌱 SHE-GROWS est un projet Erasmus+ de renforcement des capacités qui va bien au-delà du simple transfert de connaissances. Il crée les conditions nécessaires pour que ce savoir se transforme en travail, en revenus et en reconnaissance.

Dual certification for a double future
Skills recognised, not just acquired

In many rural settings, training exists but leaves no trace in the system. People learn, they practise, yet there is no document to prove what they can do. For women in Béja and Jendouba, already at a disadvantage in the labour market, this invisibility of skills is one more barrier.

🎓 SHE-GROWS takes a different approach. On completing the programme, each participant will receive dual certification issued jointly by Elemtiez, a Tunisian VET centre, and EFA El Soto, a Spanish agricultural training centre. Not a token certificate, but a credential with international standing.

🌍 This sits within a broader framework. The curriculum is designed in line with European instruments such as the EQF (European Qualifications Framework), ESCO, Europass and EQAVET, ensuring that the skills acquired are readable and transferable beyond the Tunisian context. A bridge between local training and international standards.

🧰 Certification is not the only tangible outcome. Each participant will also receive a hydroponic starter kit to begin production straightaway. The transition from training to practice is not deferred to some hypothetical future: it is built into the project itself.

🌱 SHE-GROWS is an Erasmus+ Capacity Building project that goes beyond knowledge transfer. It creates the conditions for that knowledge to become work, income and recognition.
