🌊🌟 MARINE EDUCATION FOR YOUTH IN ATAÚRO – FINAL DAY
📅 15 July 2026
📍 Beloi, Ataúro
Beni-Marine Timor-Leste successfully concluded the Marine Education for Youth Program in Ataúro, a three-day program that provided students with opportunities to learn and understand the importance of marine ecosystems through classroom sessions, outdoor activities, snorkeling, and kayaking.

On the final day, the planned direct exploration of the coral reef ecosystem was adjusted due to weather conditions, strong winds, and rough sea conditions, which did not allow snorkeling activities to be conducted safely. However, students continued learning about coral reef conservation and the important role of youth in protecting the ocean.

🏖️ Students and the team also carried out a coastal clean-up activity to increase awareness about the impacts of marine debris on biodiversity and coastal ecosystems.

📜 The program concluded with a reflection session, the distribution of participation certificates, and awards for outstanding students who demonstrated active participation, dedication, and strong interest in marine environmental learning.

✨ This recognition encourages youth to continue learning, developing leadership, and engaging in ocean conservation actions.

🙏 Our sincere appreciation goes to all students, teachers, volunteers, and partners, especially Roman Luan and HACOSTA, for their valuable support and collaboration in making this program successful.
Together, we are empowering knowledgeable and responsible youth to become future Ocean Guardians.

🌊📚 MARINE EDUCATION FOR YOUTH IN ATAÚRO – DAY 2
📅 14 July 2026
📍 Beloi & Waru-Ana, Ataúro
Beni-Marine Timor-Leste continued the Marine Education for Youth Program in Ataúro. On the second day, students participated in outdoor learning activities, exploring marine ecosystems firsthand through educational field sessions, snorkeling, and kayaking.

🌿 Learning Directly from Nature
Outdoor learning provides students with the opportunity not only to study from books but also to observe, explore, and understand the richness and importance of Ataúro’s marine ecosystems through direct experience.

🎯 Highlights of Day 2 Activities
🌱 Exploring the Seagrass Ecosystem
Through snorkeling activities, students observed seagrass meadows and the diverse marine life that depends on them. They also practiced simple field methods to measure, observe, and record the condition of seagrass habitats.

Students learned that seagrass plays a vital role as a nursery and feeding ground, providing shelter and food for juvenile fish and many other marine organisms before they move into deeper marine habitats.

🛶 Exploring the Mangrove Ecosystem by Kayak
Using kayaks, students explored the mangrove forests of Waru-Ana, identifying different mangrove species while observing fish, birds, and other wildlife that rely on this unique coastal ecosystem.
Throughout the exploration, students learned about:

🌿 The importance of mangroves in protecting coastlines from erosion;
🐟 The role of mangroves and seagrass in supporting fisheries and marine biodiversity;
🌊 The ecological connection between mangroves, seagrass, and coral reefs;
⚠️ The causes and impacts of environmental degradation;
📖 The history and environmental changes that have occurred in the Waru-Ana area;
💙 The responsibility of young people to protect and care for nature.

This program is much more than snorkeling or kayaking. It is an opportunity to inspire young people to become knowledgeable, responsible, and committed stewards of the ocean.

The youth of Ataúro are the future guardians of our oceans. By understanding the value of marine ecosystems, they can become true ocean stewards, protecting biodiversity while inspiring their communities to conserve nature for future generations.

🙏 Our sincere appreciation to all participating students, teachers, and our partners from Roman Luan and HACOSTA for their continued collaboration and support in making this important program possible.

👀 Stay tuned for Day 3!
