𝐍𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐲 𝐀𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐃𝐚𝐲 | August 21

Today, the Philippines observes 𝐍𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐲 𝐀𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐃𝐚𝐲, commemorating the death anniversary of former Senator 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐨 “𝐍𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐲” 𝐀𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐉𝐫.

On 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟐𝟏, 𝟏𝟗𝟖𝟑, Aquino was assassinated at the then-Manila International Airport upon his return to the Philippines after several years abroad. His death became a significant event in Philippine history and contributed to a period of heightened political and social awareness among Filipinos.

In 2004, 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐀𝐜𝐭 𝐍𝐨. 𝟗𝟐𝟓𝟔 officially declared August 21 of every year as Ninoy Aquino Day in remembrance of his death anniversary.

As we observe this day, may it also serve as an opportunity to learn more about Philippines’ history, understand the events that shaped Philippine society, and recognize the importance of being informed and responsible citizens. 📖

𝐅𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐋 𝐃𝐚𝐲 | August 20

Today, Timor-Leste commemorates 𝐅𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐋 𝐃𝐚𝐲, honoring the history and contributions of the 𝐀𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐨𝐫-𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞 (𝐅𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐋).

FALINTIL was established on 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟐𝟎, 𝟏𝟗𝟕𝟓, and became an important part of Timor-Leste’s long struggle for national liberation and independence. Every August 20 is recognized as an official commemorative date in Timor-Leste, providing an opportunity to remember those who served and those who sacrificed their lives in pursuit of the nation’s freedom.

As we commemorate 𝐅𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐋 𝐃𝐚𝐲, may we also reflect on the values of 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞, 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐲. The lessons of the past remind us that the freedom enjoyed today carries a responsibility to preserve peace, strengthen unity, and contribute positively to the future of the nation. 🕊️

As we proudly celebrated ASEAN Day, a meaningful occasion that brought our Gracians together in honoring the rich cultures, traditions, and unity of Southeast Asia.

Throughout the celebration, our students enthusiastically participated in various activities, including the Flag Making Contest, Poster Making Contest, Human Spelling Game, Essay Writing Competition, and Quiz Bee. These engaging events allowed our Gracians to showcase their creativity, knowledge, teamwork, and love for learning while deepening their appreciation of the ASEAN community.

More than just a celebration, ASEAN Day reminded us of the importance of friendship, mutual respect, cooperation, and embracing the diversity that makes our region stronger. As Timor-Leste continues its journey alongside its ASEAN neighbors, we are proud to nurture globally minded learners who value unity and cultural understanding.

Knowledge, confidence, and teamwork were on full display as our Gracians competed in the ASEAN Day Quiz Bee Competition!

Students put their knowledge to the test as they answered questions about the history, geography, cultures, traditions, landmarks, and member states of ASEAN, including Timor-Leste. The competition challenged them to think critically, respond quickly, and demonstrate what they had learned about our Southeast Asian community.

The Quiz Bee was more than just a contest—it was a celebration of learning that encouraged curiosity, camaraderie, and a deeper appreciation of the rich diversity that unites the ASEAN region.

Learning became even more exciting as our Gracians participated in the Human Spelling Game during our ASEAN Day Celebration!

Working together as a team, students arranged themselves to spell words related to ASEAN, geography, culture, and regional unity. The activity challenged their spelling, communication, and teamwork skills while creating a fun and engaging learning experience.

Filled with laughter, energy, and friendly competition, the Human Spelling Game reminded everyone that learning is even more meaningful when we work together.

Today, 𝐄𝐬𝐤𝐨𝐥𝐚 𝐃𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐚 𝐘 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 celebrates the unity, friendship, and cultural diversity that connect the nations of Southeast Asia.

This celebration is especially meaningful for Timor-Leste and the Philippines. The Philippines has been part of ASEAN since its founding in 1967, while Timor-Leste officially became ASEAN’s 11th member state on October 26, 2025. Together, they now stand as equal members of one regional community committed to peace, cooperation, progress, and shared development.

For our Timorese learners, becoming part of ASEAN opens a new chapter of regional belonging and responsibility. It offers greater opportunities to build friendships, exchange knowledge, appreciate neighboring cultures, and contribute to a stronger and more united Southeast Asia. Timor-Leste continues to strengthen its participation by fulfilling the rights and responsibilities connected to its membership.

May this day inspire our learners to respect every culture, value cooperation, and recognize that unity becomes stronger when every nation contributes its unique identity.
