Congratulations to the team at Wood PLC on completing their English for the Workplace training with LELI.

From October 2025 to May 2026, two groups of Wood staff each completed 60 hours of professional English training at Intermediate and Intermediate Plus level. The focus throughout was on the English they use at work every day: meetings, presentations, professional discussions, report writing, and communication in an engineering context.

Lessons were built around real workplace material, with participants helping to shape the content around their own priorities so that new language could be used immediately on the job. Both groups brought excellent attendance, a genuinely collaborative classroom atmosphere, and steady growth in confidence and fluency. All participants successfully completed their courses.

Congratulations to the JDS scholarship recipients who have completed their English course with LELI, delivered in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE)! 🇹🇱

This group is preparing for Master's study in Japan, where English is often the language of instruction, so the course went beyond general English into the academic skills they will rely on at university: academic reading and writing, organising ideas into clear paragraphs and essays, referencing, and academic integrity. Lessons were shaped around their next chapter, with Japan-focused topics woven throughout.

The group's work ethic stood out. They arrived early, studied before class, and threw themselves into every task, and it showed in their progress across reading strategies, writing organisation and confidence. Taught by LELI's James Burgon, every student completed the course successfully, with several earning a Pass with Credit or Distinction.

As one participant shared: "I liked the supportive environment and the clear explanations most, and the learning materials were really relevant."

Congratulations to two Australia Awards Timor-Leste groups who have completed a 90-hour English language course with LELI! 🇹🇱

This was a bridging programme with a clear goal: to strengthen scholarship candidates' English and help them move up a band in their next English exams, on the pathway towards IELTS and study abroad. Over the course, learners worked with authentic texts, sharpened their listening, reading and academic writing, and built the confidence to discuss more demanding topics in English.

A real highlight was the end-of-course presentations, where students spoke about their chosen fields of study and shared their ideas for Timor-Leste's future, from chemical engineering to accounting and finance. The results were outstanding, with the large majority of both groups earning a Pass with Distinction. Just as valuable was the supportive, English-speaking classroom the group built together, helping one another throughout.

As one participant said of their teacher: "I like our teacher so much. The atmosphere she created helps us a lot to improve our English, and the friendships we built during the course."

LELI is delighted to see Australian Ambassador to Timor-Leste Caitlin Wilson highlight the practical role of English language training in supporting Timor-Leste’s ASEAN engagement. 🇹🇱🤝🇦🇺

As Ambassador Wilson notes, the English Language Training for ASEAN Accession (ELTAA) program is helping Timorese public servants build the English skills needed to engage meaningfully in ASEAN and support Timor-Leste’s continued regional integration.

LELI is proud to deliver ELTAA through PROSIVU, in partnership with Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor-Leste and the Comissão da Função Pública, with the support of the Australian Government. Congratulations to the latest group of Australia Awards Timor-Leste participants who have completed their Hybrid English language course with LELI! 🇹🇱

This cohort of learners from across the municipalities came together to strengthen their English and take their first steps towards IELTS, part of the pathway towards scholarship opportunities. The course combined an intensive week of face-to-face classes in Dili with online learning over the following weeks, and the group showed real determination in balancing their study with work and travel.

Progress came in many forms: more confident speaking and longer, better-structured answers, clearer and more organised writing, sharper reading skills, and a much stronger understanding of what the IELTS exam involves. Just as importantly, the group supported one another throughout, bringing energy and encouragement to every session.

As one participant shared: "LELI teachers are great. They prepare well, they are friendly, and they motivate us to learn. Joining classes at LELI is so exciting."

Congratulations to the doctors from the Ministry of Health who completed their English training with LELI earlier this year, delivered in partnership with the Partnership for Human Development (PHD)! 🇹🇱

Across two groups, 23 General Practitioners based at the national hospital worked to strengthen the English they use every day, from taking part in medical training with English-speaking trainers to writing up patient records and reports. Lessons were built around real hospital and patient-care situations, with case scenarios, role-plays, and plenty of practical, work-focused language.

The commitment from students was outstanding. Attendance and motivation stayed high throughout, and the results reflected it, with the majority of participants passing the course and many earning a Pass with Distinction. Both groups built genuine confidence in using English where it matters most in their work. One participant described it as the best experience they have had learning English!

Congratulations to the team from Menzies School of Health Research on completing their General English Elementary 1 course at LELI! 🇹🇱

This group of Timorese health professionals took on English with real dedication, building the speaking skills and confidence they will draw on in professional meetings and during upcoming clinical observations in Darwin. Lessons were shaped around their world, weaving in medical vocabulary and extra listening practice alongside the everyday English of the course.

Attendance and energy were outstanding from beginning to end, and the results reflected it. In the words of their teacher "The class was highly motivated, practised as much as possible in and out of class, and were an absolute delight to teach."

As one participant shared: "This course increases our knowledge and skills for the workplace."

Last week, the launch of the latest phase of the English Language Training for ASEAN Accession (ELTAA) programme, welcomed 151 public servants into training that builds the English skills needed to represent Timor-Leste across ASEAN's political-security, economic, and socio-cultural pillars.

Over four months, this group of future Australia Awards Scholarship candidates worked to strengthen their English ahead of the next stage of their scholarship journey.

Lessons focused on real, practical improvement, with material built from students' own needs and the results spoke for themselves, with the majority of the group passing and many earning a Pass with Credit or Distinction. Just as pleasing was the growth in confidence and spoken fluency, and the energy the group brought to every class.
