Bactria Cultural Centre (Bactria) was founded in Dushanbe in 2001, with assistance of the French Non-Governmental Organisation ACTED. Since its establishment, the Cultural Centre has been facilitating access to culture and information, providing vocational training and supporting members of the artistic community of Tajikistan. Bactria has significantly contributed to reviving the cultural life of Tajikistan after the social and political upheaval of the civil war, and throughout the years built a vast network of artists, film makers, music producers, curators, cultural managers and students among the Central Asian cultural community. Through different activities and events, Bactria Cultural Centre has facilitated dialogue and intercultural exchange on arts, music and film – in Central Asia and globally – for 20 years. Continuously adapting and transforming to new contexts, Bactria Cultural Centre is now the leading independent cultural organisation in Tajikistan. Its mission remains to promote an open and diverse cultural space and serve as a platform for expression, creation, experimentation and innovation until this day. Bactria also recognizes that the ability to communicate effectively is crucial to form part of today’s global community, therefore, it offers language courses in French, English, Russian, Persian and Japanese.
