In science class, students engaged in a hands-on engineering and physics activity by building and testing their own rollback cans.
Using simple materials such as paper cups, rubber bands, paperclips, and a coin, students explored how energy is stored and transferred within a system. After constructing their devices, they tested how the cans move, observing a unique circular rolling motion and investigating why the can returns after being pushed.
Students also practiced measuring linear distance using masking tape and rulers, helping them distinguish between curved motion and straight-line displacement. Throughout the activity, they made predictions, conducted trials, and analyzed how variables like force and design affect motion.
This lab supports key scientific skills, including inquiry, problem-solving, and understanding energy transformations in real-world systems.
You may ask your child:
- Why does the can roll back after being pushed?
- What role does the rubber band play?
- How did they measure the distance traveled?
It was a great day of hands-on learning and discovery.

Students from Digital Art, NAHS, Animal Welfare, and NJHS will be hosting a Plushie and Stress Relief Sale on Tuesday, April 28th and Wednesday, April 29th during recess and lunch. We’ll have an assortment of stress-relieving goodies to help put a smile on your face while supporting a very worthy charity. All proceeds will be donated to PAWS Bangkok.
Our PAWS Bangkok Charity Drive runs until May 1st, and your support is greatly appreciated. Cash donation boxes can be found around campus, and we are also collecting WHISKAS cat food, cat litter, p*e pads, and other essential supplies.
PAWS Bangkok relies entirely on donations, and your generosity will make a meaningful difference. A non-profit organisation, PAWS actively helps the local community and its animals through spaying and neutering operations, vaccination programmes, veterinary services, fostering and adopting and, most importantly, through education. PAWS also operates the go-to cats shelter in Bangkok.
