Making Disciples, One Book at a Time

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations..." — Matthew 28:19

Yesterday was another fulfilling Sabbath that reminded me what true discipleship really means.

We were blessed to worship with our newly assigned pastor, Pastor Klane Heet from the Thailand Adventist Mission, a Burmese missionary whom God has called to serve here in Thailand. His sermon, "Discipleship," based on Matthew 28:19, challenged us to go beyond simply attending church—to become active followers of Christ who intentionally reach others.

After the divine service, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Baring, our dedicated volunteer missionaries, organized a community literature distribution around the neighborhood near the church.

Together with our newly baptized Seventh-day Adventist member, we stepped out in faith to share the love of Christ through printed pages. One of our companions, Ms. Winning, an ESL teacher, joined us for the very first time. She admitted she felt awkward at first walking from one person to another, offering Christian books to strangers. But as the day went on, her hesitation slowly turned into confidence and joy.

The rest of our team consisted of experienced literature evangelists from the Philippines, who encouraged everyone with smiles, prayers, and simple words of kindness.

Our bags were filled with Thai editions of Steps to Christ and health books, believing that these books can continue speaking long after we have walked away. In just a short time, by God's grace, we were able to distribute around 150 copies to the Thai community.

One of the most touching moments came at the marketplace. Several vendors appreciated what we were doing—not because we expected anything in return, but because they saw genuine care. As a token of gratitude, they surprised us with four packs of Thailand's famous mango sticky rice and four refreshing cups of Thai tea. Their kindness reminded us that love given often returns in unexpected ways.

As I reflected on the day, one thought echoed in my heart:

"I heard a voice saying in heaven, 'It was you who invited me here.'"

Those words deeply moved me.

Pastor Klane Heet's message became a reality before our eyes. Making disciples is not limited to standing behind a pulpit or conducting Bible studies. Sometimes, discipleship begins with a simple smile, a short conversation, and a small book placed into someone's hands.

We may never know whose heart will be touched by the pages of Steps to Christ. We may never meet the person whose life will be transformed after reading a health book that opens the door to the gospel. But God knows every seed that has been planted.

As Isaiah 55:11 reminds us:

"So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it."

My prayer is simple:

Lord, let every book we shared become a silent missionary. May every page point someone to Jesus. Let these printed words soften hearts, strengthen faith, and prepare souls for Your soon return.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

A Missionary Story That Inspired Me

Sometimes God reminds us that witnessing doesn't always happen from a pulpit. Sometimes it happens on a motorcycle... at a gas station... or inside a simple vegetarian restaurant.

Recently, I had the privilege of hearing the inspiring story of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Baring, volunteer missionaries of the Seventh-day Adventist Church serving here in Thailand.

On Tuesday, July 7, 2026, they traveled from Ratchaburi to Sangkhla Buri, an eight-hour motorcycle journey to process important documents and look for certificates for their free medical clinic.

Before leaving, Mark said to his wife,

bro. Mark said, "Let's bring some books to give to people along the way."

His wife asked, "Where?"

Mark simply answered, "Wherever God guides us."

What happened next was a beautiful reminder that God prepares hearts before His servants even arrive.

Their first stop was at a Shell gasoline station to lubricate their motorcycle chain. The staff kindly offered the service free of charge.

As they prepared to leave, one employee noticed the books and asked, "What kind of books are these?" They replied,

"Health books."

Then he asked another question that surprised them.

"Are they Jesus-God books?"

They smiled and answered, "Yes."

His face immediately lit up with joy. He gladly accepted the books and even promised to share them with others.

It wasn't a coincidence.

God had already prepared his heart before the missionaries ever arrived.

Their next stop was a small vegetarian restaurant.

While enjoying lunch, a woman and a Buddhist monk sitting nearby started a friendly conversation.

They asked where the couple was traveling.

When they learned that Mark was from the Philippines, they became even more curious.

Then came another unexpected question.

"Are you Christians?"

"Yes, we are."

"Do Christians eat vegetarian food too?"

"Yes, many of us do."

The conversation continued naturally. Questions about faith, health, and life followed one after another.

By the end of the meal, they were able to give the woman and the monk several Christian health books.

Again, it wasn't because they forced a conversation.

God opened the door.

All they had to do was walk through it.

Throughout the rest of their long journey, they stopped whenever opportunities came and continued sharing books with people they met.

It reminded me of the words of Jesus—that we are simply called to sow the seed.

We may never know where every seed will grow.

We may never see every harvest.

But God does.

Our responsibility is simply to plant faithfully and let Him give the increase.

This story challenged my own heart.

How many opportunities do I pass by each day?

How many people is God quietly preparing while I remain silent?

May we learn to carry seeds wherever we go—not only books, but also kindness, encouragement, hope, and the love of Christ.

Because sometimes one simple conversation can become the beginning of someone's journey to Jesus.
