Strengthening Asia–Africa Collaboration for Sustainable Aquaculture

Dr. Salin Kr, Lead of the AIT–African Aquaculture Initiative and Associate Professor in the Aquaculture & Aquatic Resources Management (AARM), AIT, program at the Faculty of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources - FFANR, AIT, highlighted the importance of strengthening partnerships among academia, governments, industry, and farming communities to advance sustainable aquaculture across Africa during the Asia–Africa Aquaculture Partnership Forum hosted by AIT on 10 July 2026.
The forum marked another milestone in fostering research collaboration, innovation, and capacity building for global food security.

Dr. Hayat Ullah, Senior Research Specialist and Affiliated Faculty at the Faculty of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources - FFANR, AIT, was invited by Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), Indonesia, to serve as a resource person for the "Strengthening Academic Networks and International Research Collaboration for Indonesian Students in Thailand to Support National Food Security" program.

The lecture, organized in a hybrid format from Bangkok, brought together students and faculty members from Indonesia, both onsite and online. During the session, Dr. Hayat introduced AIT's academic programs, global and regional standing, scholarship and fellowship opportunities, and highlighted the Institute's contributions to capacity building, research excellence, and sustainable development across the region.

The event provided an excellent platform to strengthen academic networks and explore future opportunities for research collaboration, student mobility, and institutional partnerships between AIT and Indonesian universities in support of regional food security and sustainable development.

AIT-FFANR and Universitas Padjadjaran, Indonesia, Strengthen Strategic Collaboration for Future Food, Agriculture, and Sustainable Innovation

The Faculty of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources - FFANR, AIT at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), was honored to visit the Faculty of Agro-Industrial Technology (FTIP), Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD), one of Indonesia's leading public universities, on 10 July 2026.

The FFANR delegation, comprising Prof. Anil Kumar A**l, Dean of FFANR; Dr. Sandi Darniadi, Assistant Professor and Academic Program Chair of Food Innovation, Bioprocessing and Nutrition and Health (FIBNH) Academic Program; and Muhammad Eriansyah Al Hakim (Eríânsyâh Al HÂkim Al-hakim), PhD Scholar in FIBNH, was warmly welcomed by Dr. Gemilang Lara Utama S., S.Pt., M.I.L., Dean of FTIP, together with Dr. Herlina Marta, S.TP., M.Si., Vice Dean, Dr. Dwi Rustam Kendarto, S.Si., M.T., Vice Dean, as well as department heads and directors of research centers across the faculty.

The visit began with an exchange of institutional profiles, showcasing the academic strengths and research excellence of both institutions. Discussions focused on expanding collaboration in joint research, publications, student exchanges, academic initiatives, and international capacity-building programs.

A key outcome was FTIP inviting AIT–FFANR to participate in its upcoming International Community Service Program in Thailand, strengthening regional collaboration and knowledge exchange between Indonesia and Thailand.

The visit concluded with a networking session with AIT alumni, highlighting the lasting impact of the AIT community in fostering international partnerships across Southeast Asia.

Together, AIT–FFANR and FTIP Universitas Padjadjaran reaffirmed their commitment to advancing education, research, innovation, and sustainable development through long-term collaboration.

AIT-FFANR and WINCheez Advance Academia-Industry Collaboration for Food Processing Innovation and Waste Management Solutions

The Faculty of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources - FFANR, AIT, Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), continued its Indonesia Engagement Mission through an industrial visit to PT Bangun Rasaguna Lestari ( ), one of Indonesia's growing processed cheese manufacturers, recognized for its commitment to product innovation and quality in the national dairy industry. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Dr. Ir. Syarif Assalam, Director and Co-Founder of WINCheez.

The delegation, consisting of Prof. Anil Kumar A**l, Dean of FFANR; Dr. Sandi Darniadi, Assistant Professor and Academic Program Chair of Food Innovation, Bioprocessing, Nutrition and Health (FIBNH) academic program; and Muhammad Eriansyah Al Hakim, PhD Scholar in FIBNH, began the visit with an exchange of institutional and company profiles, followed by a comprehensive tour of WINCheez's production facilities to gain deeper insights into its manufacturing processes, quality management practices, and industrial innovation ecosystem.

Discussions focused on identifying collaborative research opportunities that bridge academic expertise with industrial applications. Particular attention was given to the development of modified starch as an alternative functional raw material for cheese manufacturing, as well as nanobubble technology for industrial wastewater treatment, highlighting shared interests in improving product functionality, production efficiency, and environmentally sustainable processing technologies.

Both parties also explored opportunities to strengthen long-term collaboration through applied research, industrial innovation, student engagement, and future joint projects that connect scientific discovery with real-world manufacturing challenges. The dialogue reaffirmed the important role of partnerships between academia and industry in accelerating innovation while supporting the sustainable growth of Indonesia's food processing sector.

Together, AIT–FFANR and WINCheez share a common vision of transforming research into industrial solutions that create value for society, strengthen food manufacturing capabilities, and contribute to a more sustainable and resilient food industry.

AIT–FFANR and STFI Bandung Forge a Strategic Partnership for Research, Innovation, and Academic Excellence

The Faculty of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources - FFANR, AIT , Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), marked another milestone in strengthening international academic collaboration through an official visit to the Sekolah Tinggi Farmasi Indonesia (STFI), Bandung, Indonesia.

The FFANR delegation, led by Prof. Anil Kumar A**l , Dean of FFANR, included Dr. Sandi Darniadi, Assistant Professor and Academic Program Chair of Food Innovation, Bioprocessing and Nutrition & Health (FIBNH) academic program, and Muhammad Eriansyah Al Hakim (Eríânsyâh Al HÂkim Al-hakim), PhD Scholar in FIBNH. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Dr. apt. Adang Firmansyah, Chairman of STFI, together with Pupung Ismayada, ST., MM, Vice Chairman; Dr. apt. Diki Prayugo Wibowo, M.Si., Vice Chairman; and members of the executive board, department heads, and academic leadership.

During the meeting, both institutions exchanged institutional profiles and highlighted their strengths in education, research, innovation, and international engagement. Discussions identified numerous opportunities for collaboration that align with the strategic priorities of both institutions.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthen cooperation through joint research projects, scientific publications, student and faculty exchanges, academic mobility, capacity-building initiatives, international seminars, and collaborative research programs. The partnership will also promote interdisciplinary collaboration in food innovation, pharmaceutical sciences, biotechnology, nutrition, and sustainable technologies to address emerging regional and global challenges.

This strategic partnership represents an important step toward a long-term collaboration between AIT–FFANR and STFI, reinforcing a shared vision of advancing research excellence, innovation, and sustainable development while nurturing the next generation of scientists and innovators across Indonesia, Thailand, and the wider ASEAN region.

From AIT-FFANR Student to Inspiring Future Scholars: Sharing Knowledge, Creating Opportunities

An inspiring journey came full circle as Mr. Deep Oza , a Master’s student at the Faculty of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources - FFANR, AIT, in the Agricultural Systems and Engineering (ASE) program and alumnus of Navsari Agricultural University (NAU), returned to his alma mater to inspire the next generation of students.

As a speaker at the session “Exploring Higher Education and Scholarship Opportunities and Pathways to AIT” held at the ASPEE College of Horticulture, Navsari Agricultural University, India, on 9 June 2026, Mr. Oza shared his personal academic journey, experiences at AIT, and valuable insights on pursuing higher education and accessing international scholarship opportunities.

Through his story, he encouraged students to dream bigger, explore global learning opportunities, and confidently take the next steps toward building their academic and professional futures.
The initiative was warmly appreciated by the leadership and faculty of ASPEE College of Horticulture, who highlighted the importance of student-led knowledge sharing and international exposure in empowering young scholars.

The Faculty of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources - FFANR, AIT at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), was honored to visit the Department of Food Technology, Universitas Pasundan ( ), Bandung, on 8 July 2026 for a Special Lecture and Collaborative Meeting aimed at strengthening academic collaboration and advancing innovation in food science and technology.

The FFANR delegation, consisting of Prof. Anil Kumar A**l, Dean of FFANR; Dr. Sandi Darniadi, Assistant Professor and Academic Program Chair of Food Innovation, Bioprocessing and Nutrition & Health (FIBNH); and Muhammad Eriansyah Al Hakim (Eríânsyâh Al HÂkim Al-hakim), PhD Scholar in the FIBNH program, was warmly welcomed by Dr. Jaka Rukmana, Head of the Department of Food Technology, together with Dr. Rini Triyani and fellow faculty members.

As the Guest Speaker, Prof. Anil Kumar A**l delivered a special lecture entitled "Engineering the Future Food: From Plants to Protein Platforms," attended by more than 100 Food Technology students. The session sparked enthusiastic discussions, with students actively exploring how innovative plant protein utilization systems can be developed, strengthened, and scaled to create sustainable, resilient, and future-ready food solutions that address global challenges.

Dr. Sandi also shared his current research work on the development of Cold Plasma into the food systems, which can be utilized to enhance the safety of the food production process and also for food extraction, which can target specific bioactive compound purposes.

Following the lecture, a collaborative meeting was held with the Department of Food Technology, Universitas Pasundan, to explore potential academic partnerships. Discussions covered opportunities for joint research, scientific publications, student and faculty exchanges, capacity building, and other collaborative initiatives that leverage the complementary strengths of both institutions in food science, food innovation, and sustainable food systems.

The Faculty of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources - FFANR, AIT, at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), was honored to visit World Resources Institute Indonesia (WRI), where the delegation was warmly welcomed by Dr. Tomi Haryadi, Director of the Food, Land and Water (FLW) Programme, together with the entire FLW Programme team.

Representing FFANR, Prof.Anil Kumar A**l, Dean of FFANR; Dr. Sandi Darniadi, Assistant Professor and Academic Program Chair of Food Innovation, Bioprocessing, Nutrition and Health (FIBNH) academic program; and Muhammad Eriansyah Al Hakim (Eríânsyâh Al HÂkim Al-hakim), PhD Scholar in FIBNH Program, engaged in productive discussions to explore strategic opportunities that bridge academic excellence with real-world impact.

As one of Indonesia's leading independent research organizations, WRI Indonesia advances sustainable development by bridging science, policy, and practice. Through its Food, Land and Water (FLW) Programme, it works with governments, academia, businesses, and civil society to promote sustainable food systems, climate action, responsible land and water management, and nature-based solutions.

Recognizing the complementary strengths of both institutions, discussions explored opportunities across FFANR's multidisciplinary academic portfolio, including Food Innovation, Bioprocessing, Nutrition & Health; Digital Agriculture; Agribusiness; Agricultural Engineering; Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management; Soil and Water Conservation; Natural Resources Management; Forestry; Ecology; and Nature-based Solutions.
