Four students from Faculty of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources - FFANR, AIT (FFANR) participated in a two-week international training program at Yunnan Agricultural University (YNAU) in Kunming, China.

Held from 5–19 May 2026, the program combined academic learning with field visits, giving students insights into sustainable agriculture, rural revitalization, AI in agriculture, cross-border e-commerce, and innovative agri-food systems.

Through visits to Yunnan Agricultural University, Yanglingang Village, and the Kunming Flower Market, the students also experienced how technology, sustainability, and community engagement are contributing to rural development.

The program strengthened cross-cultural communication, international collaboration, and knowledge exchange, supporting AIT’s commitment to providing students with meaningful global learning opportunities.

The discussion will reflect on questions such as:

Who and what contribute to the pursuit of our ambitions?
What motivates us to return to learning?
How can kindness and ambition coexist in academic and professional life?
Participants will also explore The Cards of Inner Worlds, an interactive activity designed to encourage reflection, empathy, and meaningful conversation.

Join us for an open and thoughtful conversation on the human dimensions of academic life.

Research at AIT is exploring how vaccination and maternal immunity can help protect Nile tilapia from bacterial diseases from the earliest stages of development.

As part of her doctoral research at the Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management (AARM) Program, Faculty of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources (FFANR), recent PhD graduate Dr. Andrea N. Pardo V., under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh D**g, developed and evaluated a bivalent vaccine against Streptococcus agalactiae and Aeromonas veronii.

Her research also investigated how immunity can be transferred from vaccinated broodstock to offspring, confirming the presence of maternally derived antibodies in young fish. In addition, the study explored oral vaccination for tilapia fry as a practical approach to strengthen protection during early life while minimizing handling stress.

AIT President Prof. Pai-Chi Li led an AIT delegation on a visit to the IIT Gandhinagar (IITGN) on 10–11 August 2026 to explore opportunities for expanding collaboration in education, research, innovation, talent development, and advanced technologies.

Discussions during the visit explored further cooperation in semiconductors, IC design, artificial intelligence, data science, sustainability, professional education, research commercialization, and industry engagement.

The delegation also visited IITGN’s research facilities and GIFT City, gaining insights into India’s rapidly growing ecosystems in semiconductors, fintech, digital technologies, and innovation.

The AIT delegation comprised Prof. Pai-Chi Li, President; Prof. Siddharth K. Jabade, Vice President for Administration and Development; Mr. Karma Rana, Institute Secretary; and Dr. Namita Sravat, Deputy Institute Secretary.

AIT congratulates Dr. Sushil Kumar Himanshu, Associate Professor and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources, on co-editing the new Elsevier book, Water Security for Ecosystems: Metrics and Pathways for a Sustainable Future.

Developed through international collaboration, the book examines innovative metrics, scientific approaches, and policy pathways for strengthening water security and promoting resilient aquatic ecosystems amid climate change, population growth, and increasing global water demand.

Six students from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) participated in the 2026 Hohai University “Discover Jiangsu” International Summer Program on Water Disaster Prevention and Sustainable Development, held from 28 June to 11 July in Nanjing, China.

The two-week program brought together more than 50 international students for expert lectures, field visits, and cross-cultural exchanges. AIT participants deepened their understanding of China’s water governance, the relationship between the Yangtze River and Chinese civilization, and emerging approaches to water-resource management and climate resilience.

Cultural activities - including Chinese martial arts, tea culture, plant-based crafts, calligraphy, and Qinhuai intangible cultural heritage - also encouraged the students to consider water not only as an engineering challenge, but as an integral part of culture, history, and community identity.

This marked the second consecutive year that AIT students were invited to join Hohai University’s international summer program, following the participation of ten AIT students in 2025. The renewed invitation reflects the stable and continuously growing cooperation between AIT and Hohai University in student mobility, water-related education, capacity building, and international academic exchange.

Reflecting on the experience, the students emphasized that effective water management should combine modern technology with the knowledge and traditions developed by communities over generations. Representing countries across Asia, they expressed their commitment to sharing and applying what they learned within their institutions, home countries, and the wider region.

The participation of the AIT student delegation was made possible through the generous support of the AIT Chinese Alumni in Thailand.

AIT, in partnership with the National University of Laos, is piloting CRISTA (
Climate Resilient Infrastructure for Social Transformation and Adaptation) in Luang Prabang Province to improve disaster preparedness and emergency response.

CRISTA is a low-cost geospatial platform that enables communities to report hazards and infrastructure disruptions in real time, helping local authorities detect incidents faster, allocate resources, and share targeted alerts and safety information.

With support from the WFP Humanitarian Innovation Accelerator Sprint Programme, the project has already trained more than 200 community members and 30 government officials ahead of the monsoon season.

By placing communities at the center of disaster risk reduction, CRISTA transforms residents from passive recipients of warnings into active contributors to local preparedness and resilience.
