Strengthening Ties with the Thai Government on Workforce Development and Vocational Education
On February 13, 2025, a high-level delegation led by Dr. Nalinee Taveesin, President of Thailand Trade Representatives, visited the Asian Institute of Technology(AIT) to discuss collaboration on workforce development, upskilling, and future skills. Accompanied by senior officials from the Bangkok Vocational Education Council and the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation, Dr. Nalinee engaged in discussions with AIT President Prof. Pai-Chi Li and senior AIT leadership.
Representing AIT Extension, Executive Director Mr. Voravate Chonlasin contributed to the discussions, emphasizing AIT’s leadership in professional development and capacity-building. He highlighted AIT Extension’s past collaboration with the Asian Development Bank(ADB) on Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) and recommended integrating CSA knowledge into Thailand’s vocational education system. This aligns with ongoing efforts by the TVET Council, which is mobilizing ADB funding to enhance the capacity of selected Thai agricultural colleges.
Some of the key discussion points included:
Developing a Thailand Innovative Tech Skills Framework to support emerging industries such as AI, automation, renewable energy, and logistics.
Creating a Thailand Skill Academy for Innovation and Digital Transformation to equip professionals with future-ready expertise.
Enhancing vocational education institutions through industry-aligned curriculum development and capacity-building programs.
The visit reaffirmed AIT’s commitment to collaborating with the Thai Government and industry stakeholders to drive workforce competitiveness and lifelong learning across the region. It reinforced AIT’s role as a leading hub for upskilling and reskilling professionals in Thailand and the wider ASEAN region.
