In this piano faculty recital, Yoshimi Matsushima and Junta Arakawa present Contemporary Freedom, featuring works by Richard R. Bennett, Claude Bolling, and Yoshinao Nakada. The program explores a blend of jazz moods, romantic-classical textures, and modern musical expression.

Bennett’s Four Piece Suite is a tribute to André Previn, the German-American conductor and composer known for his accomplishments in jazz, film, and classical music. The suite consists of four movements: Samba Triste, Country Blues, Ragtime Waltz, and Finale.

Bolling’s Sonata for Two Pianists No. 2 comprises three movements, combining jazz and classical elements, and features additional collaboration with drums and bass.

Nakada-sensei’s Piano Suite “The Four Seasons of Japan” presents a contemporary transformation of many familiar traditional melodies that celebrate the four seasons of Japan.

Jinwei is invited to perform at Winners' Gala Concert at Sol Joseph Recital Hall at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music on June, 2026.

In this faculty recital, pianist Eri Nakagawa presents Romantic Madness: Schumann and Rachmaninoff, a program exploring the emotional intensity and imagination of Romantic music. Schumann’s Kreisleriana, Op. 16, shows the composer’s contrasting sides of passion and reflection, while Rachmaninoff’s Variations on a Theme of Chopin, Op. 22, and Variations on a Theme of Corelli, Op. 42, demonstrate his rich harmonic language, lyrical expression, and distinctive piano sonority. Together, these works express the Romantic idea of “madness” as the limitless power of artistic creativity and emotion.
