𝐓𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐬 — 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 𝐁 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬!

🌞On 16 August 2026, twelve young people completed the Barista Short Course at The Happy Cafe, HWF Office Compound, under the Rays of Youth Program.

They finished with a hands-on skills competition covering coffee knowledge, latte art, and iced coffee preparation — and every one of them passed.

Only weeks ago, many had never stood behind an espresso machine. Today they grind, steam, pour, and serve with steady hands and real confidence.

𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

🌞The role of MLC teachers is a major for students in fragile context in the border area. Simultaneously, these teachers are also under stress while facing heavy workloads, daily stress and uncertainty. Hence, HWF organized this mental well-being promoting workshop for MLC teachers in border areas through the following sessions;

* Stress management & self-care awareness
* Practical tools to build emotional resilience and relaxation
* Stronger peer support & teamwork through active group games
* Greater confidence and professional effectiveness

In these two days workshop, over 140 teachers from 10 MLCs actively participated and created their own spaces for mental healing. HWF would like to express the gratitude to our valuable partners: Lutheran World Federation (LWF) for dedicated fund support, and Myanmar Health Support (MHS) which is a mental health & psychosocial support team. 🌞

𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝟕 - 𝐄𝐡 𝐊𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐞
"𝐃𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐬, 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬"

Eh Khone grew up in a diverse border community and joined the Rays of Youth Youth Leadership Program as a Batch 8 Youth Leader. Over three years, she transformed from a migrant student into a confident youth advocate; taking on leadership roles, engaging in community and social work, and discovering her purpose. She now serves as a Youth Board Committee Member at Help Without Frontiers Foundation, representing youth voices in organizational decisions, leading the Youth Network Group, organizing community activities, and contributing to project planning and implementation.

While pursuing a Bachelor's degree in English for International Communication at Chiang Mai Rajabhat University International College, she continues to make space for advocacy work. "Rays of Youth gave me more than skills, it believed in me and transformed my journey from a migrant student into a leader.

Now I want to create the same opportunities for other young people facing challenges like I did. Every young person deserves the chance to learn, grow, and build a brighter future.

𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝟔 - 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐨𝐧
"𝐃𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐬, 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬"

Surapon is one of 86 migrant students currently studying at high school level with the support of a scholarship scheme, led by Child's Dream Foundation and HWF.

The students in technical college have the opportunity in their final year to undertake an internship related to their field of study. Surapon is currently an intern with an air conditioning service shop in Mae Sot, preparing for working life in Thailand by gaining practical experience as an electrician.

"I have learned how to install wall-mounted air conditioners - all the techniques involved in assembling the parts and running the electrical wiring. Despite the obstacles, I have really enjoyed it, gained a lot of experience and met new people - we helped each other out."

"In the future, after I graduate, I want to become an electrician so I can support my family."

𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝟓 - 𝐊𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐲𝐚
"𝐃𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐬, 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬"

We continue our series of youth stories today with Karnya, a Grade 12 student at a technical college in Thailand. Karnya is breaking ground - not only in educational attainment for migrant students from Myanmar, but also for young women and girls interested in STEM fields: she is the only female in her mechanical engineering class.

"My mother enrolled me in a Thai school. She knew it was important for me to study in the Thai system, and get a good understanding of the Thai language."

Karnya is completing her college education with scholarship support, which she won with excellent grades and references from her Thai school. Now, she is participating in an internship at a local auto mechanic, where she works on car suspension and other tasks around the garage.

"It is hard work. There is pressure from customers and senior colleagues. But I am learning to take more responsibility, be patient, and be consistent every day."

"𝐃𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐬, 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬"

Ye Than Lwin is a migrant youth living along the Thai-Myanmar border who recently completed the Rays of Youth Beverage Short Course. Before joining, his knowledge of beverage making was limited, but he was determined to build skills in the hospitality industry.
Through the program, Ye Than Lwin learned practical mixology techniques and gained confidence in teamwork, communication, customer service, and attention to detail. Working with supportive teachers and classmates, he discovered a genuine passion for the beverage industry and became more patient and focused. "It's not hard, it's just new. Confidence grows when you keep learning and trying new things.
This course gave me the skills and confidence to follow my dream of becoming a professional bartender. I want to tell other young people: don't let fear stop you from chasing your goals. Believe in yourself."

"𝐃𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐬, 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬"

Saw Moo Kler Taw is currently participating in the BEAM-CYLD Program after joining the Youth Network Group (YNG) in January 2026. Originally from Mae La Oon Refugee Camp, he moved to Mae Sot to continue his studies and build new skills. Before joining YNG and ROY, he was a student who actively participated in youth activities to strengthen his communication, leadership, and teamwork.

Through ROY, Saw Moo Kler Taw has gained practical skills in graphic design, video editing, photography, AI, and social media. He has also contributed to awareness-raising activities, supported community events, and worked alongside diverse communities. "Joining ROY has given me opportunities to learn new skills, become more confident, and improve my leadership and communication. These experiences motivate me to study hard for my GED, build my career, and use my skills to support young people and refugee communities."

𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝟐 - 𝐍𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞
"𝐃𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐬, 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬"

Naree is studying in her final year of Hotel Management at a technical college on the Thailand-Myanmar border. To gain experience before graduating, she is currently interning at a four-star hotel, rotating between three departments: the kitchen, food and beverage, and housekeeping.

She has participated in cooking, cleaning, setting up tables and preparing rooms, and also received training in fire safety and First Aid. "This internship at the hotel has allowed me to learn new things and do work that I have never experienced before. I have improved my service skills in line with the standards of each department, as well as my teamwork, communication, and ability to handle unexpected problems."

Naree's dream is to open a cafe, where people can relax and be happy: "I will apply the knowledge and experience I have gained to achieve my dream in the future."

"𝐃𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐬, 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬"

Kochakorn is a Grade 12 student at a technical college in Thailand. She will soon graduate, and is currently undertaking an internship connected to her future aspiration: becoming a mechanic.

In particular, she has learned how to manage and operate CNC machines to produce complex designs on a range of materials. "Mostly, I engrave metal surfaces according to customer designs, and also clean, deburr and polish parts to a high quality. I was able to try new things and do tasks that you don't learn in the classroom."

Despite missing home, Kochakorn has already made good friends amongst her coworkers, and remains focused on her future plan. "In the future, I still want to work in this field as a good technician, and work with honesty."
