The Merit of Going to Welcome the Monks and Saying “Sadhu”
• A person who goes to welcome the monks and says “Sadhu” will gain a good reputation among both humans and angels.
Their voice will be pleasant, deep, and resonant.
They will receive praise and rejoicing.
Their heavenly mansion will grow larger every day, and the number of angel followers will increase daily.
Their good reputation will spread widely among the angels in the heavenly world.
• Our mansion in the heavenly world will expand day by day.
Our divine possessions will increase every day.
Our physical appearance will be beautiful and well-proportioned.
The head, neck, shoulders, body, and arms will be graceful.
The eyebrows will be in the right position, the eyebrows and mouth will be beautiful,
all because we spoke words of “Sadhu.”
• Our body will have good proportions—tall, strong, and balanced.
Our good reputation will be passed on from one being to another.
The stories of our happy rebirth will continue to spread
from earth-bound angels, tree angels, and sky angels,
to the Himavanta Forest, the Four Great Kings, Tavatimsa Heaven, Yama Heaven, and Tusita Heaven,
and further on to the Brahma worlds and the Formless Brahma worlds.
They pass on both images and sounds through meditation.
• What we are doing here is not ordinary.
This merit is passed on through the meditation of enlightened monks, Brahmas, and Formless Brahmas,
even to other worlds where enlightened beings exist.
This is because we are walking on the path of the Buddha, the Conqueror of Mara.
This is not a small matter at all.
Let us all come together to gain merit.
