The stated aim of the event was to unite regional partners to drive sustainable and balanced growth. CEO Thapana Sirivadhanabhakdi stated that ThaiBev was committed to becoming a stable and sustainable leader in the food and beverage sector in South East Asia, with the "PASSION 2030" project that emphasized innovation, digital transformation, premium branding, and collaboration to strengthen distribution and market reach.

Comments:
1. Contribution of the industry to sustainable development should take into account its potential negative externalities.
Reminders:
* Alcohol manufacturing and distribution generates carbon and water footprints, and whiskey distilleries have been fined for water pollution (https://lnkd.in/gVkfJ29y).
* A study estimated that losses in productivity and medical expenses costs the global population 817.6 International Dollars (https://lnkd.in/g9xqP5Z4).
* In developing countries such as Sri Lanka, alcohol-related conditions costed more than 1% of the GDP in 2015 (https://lnkd.in/gsVF6bgG)
2. Alcohol corporate expositions do not align with the World Health Organization's SAFER Framework to reduce harms from alcohol (https://lnkd.in/gfzadb9Z). A better approach may be follow the WHO's advice on limiting alcohol availability and advertising to safeguard young individuals from alcohol-related risks (https://lnkd.in/gPCraaKN).
SEAAPA wishes to urge the public to consider these issues when reading news about ESG and CSR events. Asia Pacific Alcohol Policy Alliance

Vietnam: Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev) launched interactive activities with consumers at 6 supermarkets in Ho Chi Minh City. Highlights included the introduction of Budweizer Zero Alcohol Beer, as the continuation of the nationwide campaign "Enjoy beer responsibly because someone needs you" launched in 2021. The campaign turned into the Cheers to Moderation 2025 campaign with the message "Drink in moderation. Win together" (Link: https://lnkd.in/gSpyV8K3)
Comments:
1. Preliminary survey data showed that consumption of no-and-low-alcohol beverages (NOLA) is associated with consumption of alcoholic beverages, even in populations shown to abstain from alcohol (https://lnkd.in/gRVvRYk6)
2. Data from the US showed that 15% of all alcohol-involved fatalities had a blood alcohol concentration within legal limits (https://lnkd.in/g6UV4GnC). The only winning move is not drinking before driving.
3. Arguments that low to moderate drinking reduces heart diseases could be biased by the inclusion of former drinkers (who are unwell) among the non-drinkers with those who never drink, making the risk of heart diseases in this group appear slightly higher than those who drink in low amounts (https://lnkd.in/eYxEGcB). A better winning move may be to NOT start drinking at all.
4. The message to "Enjoy beer responsibly because someone needs you" pushes the responsibility to the consumers. A better approach may be to treat alcohol as a product that can harm consumers and others.
