What is Democracy?
ဒီမိုကရေစီဆိုသည်မှာအဘယ်နည်း။


The word democracy comes from ancient Greek, with ‘demos’ meaning ‘the people’ and ‘kratos’ meaning ‘to rule’. So its literal meaning is rule by the people.

ဒီမိုကရေစီ ဟူသော စကားလုံးသည်ရှေးဟောင်း ဂရိစကားမှ ဆင်းသက်လာပြီး 'demos' သည် 'the people' နှင့် 'kratos' အုပ်ချုပ်မှု' ဟူသောအဓိပ္ပာယ်ရှိသည်။ ပကတိအဓိပ္ပာယ်သည် ပြည်သူတွေရဲ့အုပ်ချုပ်မှုပါပဲ။

In simple terms, democracy means that the people are entitled to influence important decisions that affect their lives.

ရိုးရိုးရှင်းရှင်းပြောရလျှင် ဒီမိုကရေစီဆိုသည်မှာ ပြည်သူလူထုသည် သူတို့၏ဘ ၀ အပေါ်သက်ရောက်မှုရှိသော အရေးကြီးသော ဆုံးဖြတ်ချက်များကိုလွှမ်းမိုးပိုင်ခွင့်ရှိသည်ဟု ဆိုလိုသည်။

Instead of having one person making all the decisions in a country, democracy brings together the views and interests of all people so that the future of the country can be decided based on all these views.

နိုင်ငံတစ်နိုင်ငံတွင် ဆုံးဖြတ်ချက်များအားလုံး ချမှတ်ရန် လူတစ်ဦးတည်း ထားရှိမည့်အစား ဒီမိုကရေစီသည် လူအားလုံး၏ အမြင်များနှင့် အကျိုးစီးပွားများကိုအတူတကွ စုစည်းပေးသည်။ သို့မှသာတိုင်းပြည်၏ အနာဂတ်ကို ထိုအမြင်များအားလုံးအပေါ် အခြေခံ၍ ဆုံးဖြတ်နိုင်သည်။
Democracy is rule by the majority.

ဒီမိုကရေစီဟူသည် အများစုကအုပ်ချုပ်သည်။
But the will of the minority must not be ignored.
