Now online! Virological characteristics of SARS-CoV-2-related coronaviruses dynamically circulating in Southeast Asia: A study by the G2P-Asia consortium provides a comprehensive analysis spanning fieldwork, as well as experimental and computational investigations into the biology, evolution, and ecology of novel SARS-CoV-2-related coronaviruses from horseshoe bats in Southeast Asia.

Now online! Affinity-matured B cell responses neutralizing type-I interferons underlie severe viral infections: By integrating functional and structural approaches with AI-based analysis of autoantibodies against type-I IFNs, these neutralizing autoantibodies—linked to severe viral diseases in humans—are shown to arise from pre-existing autoimmunity driven by prolonged germinal center affinity maturation.

This week's ASM Journal Highlights covers everything from the skin microbiome to norovirus—check it out!
✋Dysbiosis in the skin microbiome is linked to dermatological diseases. This article summarizes advances in understanding the composition and functions of the skin microbiome, its interaction with host immunity and impact on skin health. https://asm.social/2Vr
🔬UV light at 222 nm can be regarded as a promising technology in surface disinfection for human norovirus control while keeping safe for human exposure. Researchers recommend it be applied after surface cleaning and ideally on moist surfaces. : https://asm.social/2Vp
🦠The SCFA propionate inhibits growth of Yersinia enterocolitica in vitro. The mechanism of toxicity likely involves promiscuous activities of acetate kinase (AckA) and phosphate acetyltransferase (Pta). Learn more in : https://asm.social/2Vt
🧬The aceE gene, a crucial enzyme that links glycolysis and the TCA cycle, plays a vital role in regulating the normal physiological metabolism of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, affecting growth and biofilm formation via cell wall lipid remodeling. : https://asm.social/2Vu
🧠In : a rare but clinically significant case of Candida auris-associated central nervous system (CNS) infection in a postoperative neurosurgical patient. Read the report: https://asm.social/2Vs

What are "functional viromics?" Is there a link between mucinases produced by gut bacteria and colorectal cancer? 🧐
Find out in this week's ASM Journal Highlights! ⬇️
🦠Since its first isolation in 1935, several thousand Clostridioides difficile isolates have been collected & analyzed. In : an overview of the current C. difficile population structure, including a summary of the 5 main clades. Read now: https://asm.social/2TR
☀️Cyanobacteria are an ancient clade of phototrophic prokaryotes. But out of all the cyanobacteria available, why did Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 become the default laboratory model? This review offers insights: https://asm.social/2TU
🥼Mucinases produced by the gut microbiota play a role in regulating the integrity & renewal of the mucus layer. Researchers identified 42 mucinases enriched in colorectal cancer patients, suggesting potential involvement in CRC pathogenesis. : https://asm.social/2TS
🖥️Over the past 2 decades, viral discovery has uncovered thousands of novel coronaviruses in wildlife. However, lab limitations have stymied research on experimentally assessing their zoonotic potential. How can "functional viromics" help? : https://asm.social/2TV
🧬Magnetosomes are a model for understanding the cell biology of bacterial organelles. MamK is a key player in magnetosome chain assembly. This study explores how MamK dynamics are altered by 2 potential bacterial actin-binding proteins, McaA and McaB. https://asm.social/2TW
