Learning Thai Massage with Dr. Sirichan: More Pressure Is Not Always Better
One of the common misunderstandings about Thai massage is that deeper pressure automatically means a better treatment.
It doesn't.
Dr. Sirichan teaches students that effective pressure is not about how much force you can apply.
It is about understanding: where, when and how to apply it.
Sometimes the body is ready to receive deeper pressure.
Sometimes lighter, slower work allows the body to release more effectively.
And sometimes the most important thing a practitioner can do is stop, feel and wait.
This is why learning Thai massage requires more than learning where to place your hands, elbows, knees or feet.
Students learn to develop control.
To feel resistance.
To recognize when the body begins to soften.
And to adjust their pressure rather than forcing a response.
With experience, pressure becomes less about strength and more about communication.
Thought for today:
The goal is not to make the body surrender to the technique.
The goal is to work with the body until it is ready to let go.
