Digital technology has become an integral part of daily life. At the beginning of August, our very first parent workshop explored how children engage with the digital world and how we can help them develop a healthy, age-appropriate relationship with technology.

Led by Dr Bua, a specialist in child development and digital wellbeing, we considered both the benefits and challenges of growing up in a digitally connected world. Through research and real-life examples, we explored how digital stimulation can influence attention, learning and well-being, and reflected on how families can find a thoughtful balance between screen time, connection, play and everyday life.

As technology continues to evolve, learning how to navigate the digital world wisely and mindfully becomes increasingly important. Thank you, Dr Bua, for sharing your professional experience with our community and leading such a thoughtful and timely session.

𝗦𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘𝗦, 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗠𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗗𝗘𝗧𝗔𝗜𝗟𝗦 𝗘𝗫𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗜𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗜𝗚𝗚𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗔𝗦 𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗟𝗜𝗙𝗘

Our Year 12 IB Biology students went on a “Cell Safari” and examined specialised cells at different magnifications and discovering the remarkable differences in shape, size and structure between cells.

But these differences are more than details seen under a microscope. They offer clues about how each cell is uniquely adapted to perform its particular function.

Through this hands-on investigation, students explored one of the fundamental ideas in Biology: 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱.

And sometimes, looking closely at something incredibly small can help us understand something much bigger—𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀.

𝗡𝗨𝗥𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗙𝗨𝗟𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗙𝗥𝗢𝗠 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗜𝗥 𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗟𝗜𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗬𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗦

For children aged 2–5 at Panyaden, mindfulness is gently woven into everyday life.

With the guidance of caring and attentive educators, our youngest learners can notice what is happening around them and within themselves. They learn to pause, pay attention, listen to others and care for the people around them, through everyday moments such as playing together, sharing, helping, solving little problems and becoming more independent.
Along the way, children are introduced to Sati, a simple practice of being aware and attentive, and Metta-Karuna, which helps nurture kindness and compassion towards themselves and others. These are not lessons that children simply learn about. They are values they experience and practise in their everyday lives.

Over time, these small, mindful moments help children develop confidence, awareness, and genuine care for others, building the foundations for a happy, meaningful life.

𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗨𝗔𝗟 𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗘 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

Our rice fields will soon come alive again, as Panyaden families gather for one of our favourite annual traditions.

Rice Planting Day offers a chance to experience first-hand the journey of rice from field to table. As we plant the young seedlings together, we begin to appreciate the hard work that goes into growing something as simple and familiar as a bowl of rice.

If you need rice planting socks, our Year 12 CAS project team will be selling them at the Secondary and Primary Gates from now until Thursday, 3 September. Sales will take place after school only, starting at 15:50. Only 200 pairs available, so please get yours before they sell out!

Please remember to wear your PYD badge throughout the morning for the safety of our community.

𝗖𝗠𝗔𝗖 𝗦𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗢𝗡 𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗕𝗘𝗚𝗜𝗡𝗦

The Panyaden fields are a little louder this week as our boys U16 and U20 Phoenixes come together for CMAC Season One football try-outs.

Students are trying new positions, working through drills and encouraging one another along the way. Some are stepping onto the field for the first time, while others are getting another chance to play the sport they enjoy and be part of a team.

Try-outs are about more than finding a place on a team. They are a chance to have a go, discover where you fit and see what you can bring to the game and to the people playing alongside you. Either way, it has been a lively start to the season. Go Phoenixes!

𝗪𝗛𝗘𝗡 𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗟𝗗𝗥𝗘𝗡 𝗗𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗠, 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗬 𝗕𝗘𝗚𝗜𝗡 𝗧𝗢 𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗖𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗪𝗛𝗢 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗬 𝗔𝗥𝗘

What do I hope for this year? What am I interested in? Who do I want to become?

As part of their ‘Thriving Through Change’ unit, our Year 5 students began the school year by reflecting on these questions and thinking about their hopes and dreams for the year ahead.

They then turned these thoughts into their own dream catchers, which will hang in the classroom as a small reminder of what they hope for and what they are working towards throughout the school year. There was no right design, and no two dream catchers were the same. Each one reflected the ideas, interests and aspirations of its creator.

What a lovely way to start the school year, turning their hopes and dreams into something they can see every day.

Phones, social media, gaming and constant digital stimulation are now part of everyday life. For parents, the challenge is knowing where to set boundaries, what healthy use looks like, and how much is too much.

Join Dr Buaphrao Raphiphatthana (Dr Bua) for a 90-minute interactive workshop on how technology affects children’s attention, learning and well-being. We will explore healthy boundaries, digital citizenship, productive uses of technology, and how adults can model healthy habits and create consistent expectations between home and school.

𝗙𝗥𝗢𝗠 𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗧𝗟𝗘 𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗣𝗦 𝗧𝗢 𝗟𝗜𝗙𝗘𝗟𝗢𝗡𝗚 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗙𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘

For many of our youngest learners, Panyaden is their very first experience of school, and their first time spending part of their day away from their families. Our caring teachers have created Early Years spaces where children can settle at their own pace, connect with others, and gradually feel a sense of comfort and belonging.

Through simple, carefully planned routines, children are discovering their surroundings, learning how we interact, and becoming familiar with the people and places that will soon feel like part of their everyday world. While this new experience may bring little worries for parents, there is no need to worry. These small steps help children build independence, confidence, and trust in themselves, strong foundations for life.

The routines we share today can become treasured childhood memories as little ones find their place in a new world, growing more confident and independent each day.
