Today is the full moon in the twelfth month. It is “Loi Krathong” and also has “Total Lunar Eclipse” phenomenon. This lunar eclipse is starting from 15:02-20:56, Thai time. If you miss this, next lunar eclipse will be on September 8, 2025, next 3 year!!

Phăng Pratîp (ผางประทีป)

It’s a lighting equipment as same as candles. It has mixed with 2 words; “Phăng” which means to the fuel container for lighting and “Pratîp” means to the light. It normally uses for giving light in nighttime.

In the full moon in twelfth month, “Loi Krathong”, “ Phăng Pratîp (ผางประทีป)” is lighten to worship to the Triple gem as well.

Note: The Triple gem means the three holy gems which include Buddha Gem, Dhamma Gem and Sangha Gem.

In Loi Krathong festival, we not only float Krathong in the river, but also lighten the sky lantern.

Sky Lantern (Khom Loi โคมลอย)

In the heaven, Buddhist believes that the great Buddha’s hair which was cut when he ordained and his tooth bone from the cremation ceremony were there. We lighten the sky lantern and let it fly up into the sky to pay respect all of them in the heaven.

The festival in full moon of Thai twelfth month. There are many believes depends on each local area.

The believe of Buddhist we pay respect to the footprint of the Great Buddha on Nanthamahanathi River, somewhere far away but be respectful and honorable.

We apologize to Goddess of Water for all the bad things we have done with water and at the same time we thank for the usefulness we have got.

We also float your own suffering with the water because the river has no return, so do the suffering.
