[PUBLIC STATEMENT ON THE SUSPENSION OF THE NOTARISATION OF AU PAIR CONTRACTS BY THE PHILIPPINE EMBASSY IN THE NETHERLANDS]
As has now been publicly announced by the Philippine Embassy in the Netherlands, the Philippines will, beginning 01 July 2026, suspend the notarisation of au pair contracts involving Philippine nationals while the Philippine Government conducts an ongoing review of the au pair programme in Europe and the Netherlands.
This development affects the Dutch au pair industry broadly. According to IND figures, Filipino au pairs represent approximately 36% of all au pairs currently in the Netherlands, making them the largest au pair nationality in the country.
At Sunshine Au Pair, we are fully aware of the significance of this development for host families, au pairs, and agencies alike. We understand that this situation may create uncertainty for many families currently in process or considering future placements.
Sunshine Au Pair Remains Strong and Fully Operational
At the same time, Sunshine Au Pair remains strong, fully operational, and fully committed to continuing to support international cultural exchange in the Netherlands. Sunshine continues to hold its status as a recognized sponsor with the IND and remains fully authorized to process and sponsor au pair placements.
We are currently working closely with affected families and candidates, expanding our international recruitment efforts, and implementing the necessary adjustments to continue delivering placements in a responsible and sustainable manner.
Over the years, Sunshine has built extensive experience working not only with Filipino au pairs, but also with candidates from more than 20 other nationalities, including South Africa, Indonesia, Thailand, Kenya, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, and other Latin American countries. Because of this broad international network and operational experience, we believe we are well-positioned to navigate this transition responsibly and continue supporting host families successfully.
We thank our host families, au pairs, alumni, and partners for their continued trust, understanding, and support during this transition period.
Sunshine Au Pair remains committed to moving forward with professionalism, stability, and confidence in the future of cultural exchange in the Netherlands.

Self‑awareness isn’t a tactic.
It’s a way of showing up, especially when you’re learning to live within a new culture.
Some au pairs adjust quickly.
Some take time to understand routines.
Others quietly observe, trying to figure out what their host family expects of them.
None of them are doing it wrong.
They’re simply carrying their own experiences, habits, and emotions into a space that feels unfamiliar.
And this is where self‑awareness becomes a quiet strength.
It helps you notice your reactions before they turn into misunderstandings.
It reminds you to listen before assuming.
It lets you recognize that Dutch family expectations are not tests, but invitations to learn how another culture communicates, organizes, and cares.
Self‑aware au pairs don’t lead with certainty.
They lead with presence.
They ask questions when something is unclear.
They adapt their routines without losing themselves.
They build trust because they respect the home they’ve entered — and the people within it.
You may not always feel confident during your first weeks in the Netherlands.
But if you can stay aware, patient, and willing to grow, you’ll create a smoother, more meaningful connection with your host family.
This kind of awareness is uncommon and incredibly valuable.
It stays with you long after your au pair year ends. ✨
