I know, I know. The internet has talked about durian approximately seventeen million times already.
I’m going to talk about it again. 😌
Because I love this ridiculous fruit.
It smells like something went terribly wrong, tastes like creamy tropical custard, and somehow I’m always happy when there’s one in my fridge.
Also — durian isn’t just a delicious little biological weapon. It contains potassium (important for your muscles, nerves and heart), plus fibre, vitamin C and other useful things.
And then there’s my favourite accidental Thai-language joke:
ทุเรียน (thu-rian) = durian
เรียน (rian) = to study / learn
No, ทุเรียน does NOT mean “the fruit that studies.” 😂
The words just happen to overlap. But now I will never unsee Professor Tu-rian, so obviously he had to exist.
I absolutely adore durian, but I don’t buy it very often for one extremely practical reason:
I live alone.
Durian does not come alone.
Buying one feels less like buying fruit and more like entering a short-term relationship. 🤣
So: team durian or team “GET THAT THING OUT OF MY HOUSE”?
