🛑Suez Canal Blocked

On the 23rd of March 2021, a massive Ever Green container ship carrying more than an estimated 20,000 containers drifted sideways in Egypt's Suez Canal blocking one of the world's busiest shipping route which accounts for approximately 12% of global trade. At 1,300 feet, the Ever Green vessel is almost the size of the Empire State building and it is wedged across a canal just half that size. This incident just highlights how vital logistics and supply chain is to the world.

What does this affect?

🛳The cargo ship is holding up traffic that carries nearly $10 billion worth of goods every day which means inventory challenges. 150 ships were waiting for the Ever Green to be moved.
🛳 the blockage will prevent empty shipping containers from being returned to Asia, adding to a container shortage caused by rising demand for consumer goods during the pandemic.
🛳 The price of international crude rose after the blockage.
🛳Increase the risk of piracy as they might be forced to re- route their cargo round east Africa.
