[APSA Competition 2021]
It is with deep regret that with the postponement of APSA 2020, we will also be pushing the solo competition to 2021. The music choices will be the same and the eligibility criteria will also not change.
People who are able to participate this year will also be able to participate in 2021. We wish you all the best and we all wish you and your family good health! Stay safe everyone!

Mr Julià dominates a wide repertoire that includes the most representative works for saxophone of all ages, in addition to having released works written especially for him. Note the premiere of the concerts for Saxophone and Orchestra by Juan Albert Amargós and Antonio Olaf Sabater.
Albert Julià, started in music at the “Fundació Conservatori del Liceu” of Barcelona, where he obtained the top title of Saxophone. To continue his artistic and academic preparation, he moved to Paris where he studied at the “Conservatoire National de Region de Cergy-Pontoise” where he won the gold medal “A l’unanimité” at the top level of Saxophone and at the Chamber music, with Professor Jean-Yves Fourmeau.
Subsequently, he studied at the University of Indiana (USA), with Professor Eugene Rousseau, where he made the “artist diploma” (post-doctoral level program for virtuosos of any instrument, for which they are selected from 5 to 10 among a population of 2000 musicians in the specific case of “Indiana University”). His indisputable pedagogical experience has led him to teach and demonstrate in important musical centers of different continents.
He is currently a saxophone professor and head of the Chamber Music Department of the “Fundació Conservatori del Liceu” and artistic director of the Liceu Sax Festival in Barcelona.
Albert Julià has performed as a soloist with “Indiana University Wind Ensemble”, the Barcelona Municipal Band, Portuguese Navy Band, Veracruz State Symphony Band (Mexico), Bilbao Municipal Band, Lisbon Metropolitan Band (Portugal), Band Municipal Symphony of Madrid, the Chamber Orchestra of Granollers, the National Orchestra of Andorra, the Chamber Orchestra of Xalapa (Mexico), the University Orchestra of Popular Music (Mexico), the Orchestra of the Empordà, Orquetra Terrassa 48, Music Orchestra Popular of the UV, Symphony Orchestra of Xalapa, Chamber Orchestra of Nuevo Leon University (Monterrey) and Orchestra of the Portuguese Republican Guard among other!

Masashi Oshiro is currently the saxophone professor at the Senzoku Gauken College of Music, Kurashiki Sakuyo University and the Okinawa Prefectural University of the Arts. He obtained this Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from the Tokyo University of the Arts (Geidai).
Masashi Oshiro was the 1st Prize laureate of the prestigious 10th Japan Woodwinds and Percussion Competition. He was also a semifinalist of the 51st Geneva International Music Competition. As a soloist, he has performed with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Japan Shinsei Symphony Orchestra and the Ryukyu Symphony Orchestra, among others.
Active as a performer, Masashi Oshiro is always busy with performance as a soloist, chamber music and also as a orchestral player. He has also released four compact discs titled “Distant Song”, “Toy Box”, “Trio Senzoku” and “Romantic Sax”.
Masashi Oshiro has also previously served as saxophone instructor at the Tokyo University of the Arts between the years of 2009-2015.

Taimur Sullivan is Associate Professor of Saxophone at Northwestern University, and a member of the acclaimed PRISM Quartet for 26 years. His performances have taken him from the stages of Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Knitting Factory, to engagements in Russia, China, England, Germany, and throughout Latin America. He has garnered critical praise as “outstanding…his melodies phrased as if this were an old and cherished classic, his virtuosity supreme” (New York Times), and as a player of “dazzling proficiency” (American Record Guide).
Mr. Sullivan has dedicated much of his career to commissioning new repertoire for the saxophone, and has given the world premieres of over 250 solo and chamber works by composers including William Bolcom, Olga Neuwirth, Alvin Lucier, Augusta Read Thomas, Gavin Bryars, Julia Wolfe, John Harbison, Chen Yi, Martin Bresnick, Donnacha Dennehy, and many others. He has also presented the American premieres of compositions by important European and Asian composers including Gerard Grisey, Toshio Hosokawa, Philippe Hurel, Michael Finnissy, Giya Kancheli, and Jean-Claude Risset. In honor of his distinguished record of promoting and presenting new works for the saxophone, the New York-based arts-advocacy organization Meet the Composer named him one of eight “Soloist Champions” in the United States.
As a member of the PRISM Quartet for 26 years, Mr. Sullivan has performed concertos with orchestras worldwide, including the Cleveland Orchestra, Detroit Symphony, and Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and has conducted residencies at leading conservatories throughout the United States. His recent work with PRISM has included performing John Adams’ Nixon in China with the Los Angeles Philharmonic under the baton of the composer, a recital at the St. Petersburg Conservatory (Russia) and collaborations with noted jazz artists including Ravi Coltrane, Chris Potter, Joe Lovano, Miguel Zenón, Greg Osby, Steve Lehman, David Liebman, Tim Ries and Rudresh Mahanthappa.
Mr. Sullivan appears on over 30 recordings, and performs exclusively on Selmer saxophones and mouthpieces and Silverstein ligatures.

Hi Everyone, it has been a long hiatus, the team was busy finalizing the details! Nevertheless, the Asia Pacific Saxophone Academy is proud to announce the 3RD ASIA PACIFIC SAXOPHONE COMPETITION!!!
The competition will be held on July 24 – August 1, 2020 at Conservatory of Music, Rangsit University, Bangkok, Thailand, as a part of the Asia Pacific Saxophone Academy 2020.
The competition is open to saxophonist of all nationalities, born after July 24, 1995. The competitor’s birth date must be verified at the competition site with the competitor’s official government document. (See Application Guidelines section)
This competition will have TWO rounds. First round will be held on July 24-26, 2020. Second round, which is also the final round will be held on July 27 – August 1, 2020.
The competition is part of the Asia Pacific Saxophone Academy 2020. Participation is required in the Asia Pacific Saxophone Academy. You have the option of signing up as an active participant or observer and would be required to pay the competition fee as well as the participation fee.

It is opened to students of all ages, designed for students who have a desire to take their practice to the next level through collaboration, composition, improvisation, and the curation of sound, ideas, movement, images, text, and gesture.
