Semi-final #1 [9:00 Bangkok time] matches two former SPL champions: B-Human [1 seed] vs. UNSW Sydney RoboCup [4 seed]. B-Human defeated NomadZ 10:0 in the quarterfinals to advance, while rUNSWift defeated UT Austin Villa 3:1.

Semi-final #2 [9:15 Bangkok time] pits Nao-Team HTWK [2 seed] vs. Nao Devils[ 6 seed]. HTWK Robots defeated Bembelbots 8:0 to advance to the semi-finals. Nao Devils rematched against HULKs [3 seed] in the quarterfinals and squeezed out a 3:2 win to earn their spot in the semi-finals.

The third-place match will occur at 11:30 Bangkok Time and the final will be held immediately after at 12:30 local.

After five rounds of a Swiss-style tournament structure, the results have seeded the top eight teams into the quarterfinals:

Match-ups for the quarterfinals:
B-Human [1] vs. NomadZ [8]
HTWK Robots [2] vs. Bembelbots [7]
HULKs [3] vs. Nao Devils [6]
UT Austin Villa [4] vs rUNSWift [5]

This morning's premier match pitted two undefeated teams: B-Human vs. Nao Devils. And the match was just as competitive as expected.

Both teams made brilliant touches throughout the match. B-Human evaded Nao Devils defenders by passing the ball. And the Nao Devils goalie needed to make a couple of saves. However, the B-Human offense was too powerful for the Nao Devils' defense.

Full-time result: B-Human 4-0 Nao Devils

With both teams looking excellent, we may see a rematch of these two teams in the knockout round!

After the first day of competition / first two rounds, only four teams remain undefeated:
* HULKs (2-0-0)
* Nao Devils (2-0-0)
* B-Human (1-0-0 with a wildcard/bye)
* HTWK Robots (1-0-0 with a wildcard/bye)

Due to the Swiss tournament structure being utilized this year, teams only compete against similar-performing teams. This is meant to "quick sort" the teams and can lead to misleading intermediate standings. Don't be surprised to see some major changes in the next two days as the tournament plays out.

For example, rUNSWift entered the tournament as the 3rd seed due to strong performance in prior tournaments. They faced off against 2nd-seed HTWK and then 5th-seed UT Austin Villa - both of which are former champions in the league. So, one loss and one tie isn't a bad result!

This year's tournament is being structured a bit differently. Instead of traditional pool play, we are using a modified Swiss tournament system.

For the first round, teams are first matched up with similarly-seeded teams. Then, winners play winners and losers play losers in round 2. And then teams are matched up with similar-performing teams in future rounds. After five rounds, teams are seeded into a traditional 8-team knockout tournament.

As some teams are referring to it, this tournament is a "quick sort algorithm" to determine the best teams.
