𝟏𝟐 𝐅𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 (Short Article)
Violent extremism remains one of the most complex challenges of our time, affecting communities across regions, cultures, and religions. Yet, at its core, extremism does not emerge in isolation. It often grows where injustice persists, where voices are silenced, and where individuals especially youth feel excluded from opportunity, identity, and belonging.
The International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism reminds us that prevention is not merely a counter-terrorism strategy; it is a long-term investment in human dignity and social cohesion. Research and global experiences consistently demonstrate that inclusive and just governance, equitable development, quality education, and meaningful participation of women and young people are powerful tools against radicalization. Communities that foster dialogue, critical thinking, and empathy reduce hatred and promote mutual respect and solidarity.
In order to prevent violent extremism requires more than policies. It requires trust-building at every level of society. It calls for partnerships between civil society, educators, faith leaders, youth networks, and governments. It demands that we address root causes rather than only reacting to consequences.
12 February 2026 reminds us that peace is built through our daily actions: listening instead of labeling, engaging instead of excluding, and choosing compassion over fear. Preventing violent extremism begins with strengthening the bonds that hold multi-cultural and multi-religious societies together and ensuring that everyone feels heard, valued, and equally respected.
