Hi everyone, thanks for visiting my new page! From August I will be teaching English for beginners and creative practitioners at Tentacles N22 // Tentacles Artist Run Initiative, Bangkok- possibly branching out to NGO workers and media professionals in future. Interested? Get in touch!

Meet Teacher Kath

Nationality: Australian

Background: Chinese

Favorite English Language word: Gesticulate- it means to use gestures, especially dramatic ones, instead of speaking or to emphasize one's words.

Favorite Thai food: Anything with Sticky Rice!

Q. What is your favorite thing about teaching?

A. I love meeting new students, hearing their stories, and learning and growing with them.

Q. How would you describe your teaching style?

A. I like to teach in a fun and interactive way- with as little boring lecture time as possible! I aim to design lessons that are fun and relevant to real life, with lots of variety and opportunities for practice.

Q. Why should people learn English with you?

A. Firstly, I am friendly and flexible. My first priority is to understand my students and tailor the course to their needs.

Secondly, I am experienced. I am a native English speaker with a distinction level degree from the University of New South Wales in Australia. I have over 4 years experience tutoring and mentoring people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Writing and communicating in English has also been my profession. I spent 5 years working in radio broadcasting, including over 2 years at Australia’s national public broadcaster, the ABC.

I love to work with people from different cultural backgrounds, and understand the challenges of communicating in a second language. I have worked closely alongside people throughout Asia, South Asia and the Middle East through 3 years experience working in international development/NGOs.

Finally, for those interested taking our advanced course for creative practitioners- I understand your language needs! I am also an award winning artist who has exhibited in galleries throughout Australia.

สำหรับใครที่สนใจคลาสเรียนภาษาอังกฤษ วันนี้มาทำความรู้จักกับคุณครูแคทเทอรีนกันค่ะ

เธอมีสัญชาติเป็นออสเตรเลีย คำที่เธอชอบที่สุดในภาษาอังกฤษก็คือ Gesticulate ซึ่งมีความหมายว่า การแสดงท่าทาง โดยเฉพาะท่าทางเกินจริง แทนที่จะใช้การพูด เพื่อเน้นถึงคำพูดนั้นๆ ส่วนอาหารโปรดของเธอในประเทศไทยนั้นหนีไม่พ้นอะไรก็ตามที่มากับข้าวเหนียว

สิ่งที่เธอชอบมากในการสอนผู้อื่น คือ ได้พบปะผู้คนใหม่ๆ นักเรียน ได้ฟังเรื่องราวของทุกคน เรียนรู้และโตไปกับประสบการณ์เหล่านั้น

ถ้าพูดถึงสไตล์การสอนของเธอ เธอบอกว่าเธอชอบที่จะสอนในรูปแบบของการโต้ตอบสนทนา ให้ทุกคนสนุกไปกับการเรียน โดยจะพยายามให้มีการสอนแบบรรยายน้อยที่สุด โดยอย่างยิ่งจะเน้นการสอนไปในทิศทางที่เกี่ยวข้องกับชีวิตจริง ด้วยสถานการณ์และโอกาสที่หลากหลาย เพื่อให้นำไปใช้กับสถานการณ์จริงได้อย่างไม่ต้องเขิลอาย

สิ่งที่เธอพิเศษกว่าคุณครูสอนภาษาทั่วไป คือเธอเป็นกันเอง มีอารมณ์ขัน และพร้อมที่จะปรับตัวให้เข้ากับสถานการณ์ที่แตกต่างอย่างไม่ลังเล การทำความเข้าใจในตัวของนักเรียนแต่ละคน และดูแลคอร์สให้ดี เป็นสิ่งที่เธอจะให้ลำดับความสำคัญมาก และมาก่อนเสมอ

นอกจากนี้เธอยังมีประสบการณ์มากมาย เธอเป็น native English Speaker พร้อมกับผลการเรียนที่โดดเด่นจากมหาวิทยาลัย New South Wales ประเทศออสเตรเลีย มากกว่า 4 ปีมาแล้วที่เธอเก็บเกี่ยวประสบการณ์สอน อบรมณ์ และแนะนำผู้คนจากหลากหลายวัฒนธรรม

การเขียนและการติดต่อสื่อสาร ถือเป็นอาชีพที่ถนัดของเธอ แคทเทอรีนใช้เวลาร่วม 5 ปีในการทำงานวิทยุกระจายเสียงโดย 2 ปีกว่าที่เธอทำให้กับ วิทยุกระจายสาธารณะของประเทศออสเตรเลีย (ABC) แคทเทอรีนรักที่จะทำงานร่วมกับผู้คนที่หลากหลายวัฒนธรรม และความพยายามเข้าใจความท้าทายของการสื่อสารในภาษาที่สอง

นอกจากนี้เธอยังมีประสบการณ์การทำงานอย่างใกล้ชิดกับผู้คนในเอเชีย เอเชียใต้ และตะวันออกกลางโดยมีประสบการณ์ 3 ปีกว่า ที่ทำงานกับ International development/NGOs.
