EP Business

Last month our business students got the chance to visit OMG - Bar & Restaurant and meet the owners.

The students learned a lot about the issues facing a business owner in the heart of Bangkok. Not only they but they enjoyed the delicious food on offer.

As part of the new Business Stream at Sacred Heart Convent school, Graphic Design & Technology classes will be offered.

Graphic Design & Technology
This is a course that explores graphic communication through the understanding of the elements and principles of design including the design process, from idea development through the final creation of a product.

Product Design
This section is related to creating, innovating and developing new and useful products. Students will learn about the design process, how to take a problem and turn it into a product that is marketable.

Graphic Products
Students will be taught how to communicate their ideas effectively and develop several techniques, such as drawing skills, modelling prototypes, using computer-aided design and ICT to develop and present ideas quickly and easily.

Resistant Materials
This section will help students to understand the materials, techniques, tools, equipment, methods and processes used with resistant materials. Students will develop and understanding of both physical and working properties of a range of woods, metals and plastics.

Systems and Controls
Students will learn about basic mechanical and electronic principles that are needed in creating a range of systems and control projects. The link between electrical and mechanical systems, which is a central feature of many modern systems and controlling application will be highlighted.

The Project
Once students have mastered the above topics, students will create their own project and design portfolio in their final year. This will be the students’ opportunity to use a wide range of graphic media, tools and equipment to create an innovative product.

From 2019, Sacred Heart Convent School, in conjunction with Ideal English Academy, offers students the chance to study a unique business stream. The syllabus is based on the IGCSE curriculum from the United Kingdom. Students grade 10 (Matthayom 4) and above are eligible to join.

Our EP Business programme will give you basic knowledge and understanding of business. We offer you the chance to design and produce your own products, which you can sell at our EP Business Market.

The EP Business programme offers four subjects in addition to the core subjects. Vocational Business, Graphic Design & Technology, Business Studies, and Economics.

Business Studies offers the following content

Business Activity

This section introduces the underlying ideas and concepts of business and includes the purpose and nature of business activity and how businesses can be classified. Enterprise and entrepreneurs, and why some businesses grow while others remain small are further important issues. How business size can be measured, types of business organisation, business objectives and stakeholder objectives are the concluding topics.

People in Business

The focus is the functional area of human resources and includes the importance and methods of motivating a workforce. How businesses are organised and managed and the methods of recruitment, selection and training of employees are also considered. Finally, the section covers the importance and methods of effective internal and external communication.

Marketing

This section includes the role of marketing, the distinctions between niche and mass markets and the techniques of market segmentation. The methods and importance of market research are covered. The central role of the marketing mix, i.e. the four Ps, is made clear. Marketing strategies to influence consumer decisions at home and in new foreign markets are the final topics in this section.

Operations Management

The focus is the functional area of production and includes the meaning and methods of production and how productivity can be increased. The different costs of production and break-even analysis are covered. The section concludes with the importance and methods of achieving quality in the production process and location decisions of businesses.

Financial Information and Decision Making

This finance and accounting section covers the need for and sources of business finance, cash-flow forecasting and working capital. Simple income statements are covered as well as statements of financial position and the analysis of accounts including why and how accounts are used.

External Influences on Business Activity

This section focuses on different external influences on business activity and how these impact on a business. It includes government influences on economic, environmental and ethical issues and how they impact on the functional areas of businesses. In addition, the international economy including globalisation and its effects on businesses and governments, multinational businesses and exchange rates are important issues. Legal constraints are an external influence to be considered but these

Today was the last day of Grade 12 business students. Our students Mr Yongxi He (Michael), Miss Sataporn Kanjanapokin (Palm), Miss Sasiwan Phattaralungkarn (Fern), Miss Klaojai Janpeng (Trong), Miss Patcharaporn Penpong (Petch) & Miss Kalayaporn Chotbunyasak (Jan).

They have been wonderful students and loved by their teachers. We wish them well for the future and they are always welcome to come back to EP Business for a visit.

Each individual leader adopts very different styles and methods in leading others. They range from autocratic (the strictest) to laissez-faire (the least strict).

Miss Phunyanan Khamsopa (Fah) has done an article on Thai Business Women Mrs Rarin Utakapan Panjarungroj CEO of Amarin Printing and Publishing PLC.

The second location for our EP Business trip was to OMG - Bar & Restaurant. This wonderful place is run by Mr, Gurdev Sing Srikhandpur & Ms. Aey Nirada. The students got sample the delicious menu and also had the chance to learn from the experiences of Mr. Guru.

The students had a great opportunity to find out the challenges and rewards of running a business.

EP Business would like to thank Mr. Guru & Ms. Aey for being wonderful hosts.

Yesterday the EP Business students went on a field trip to visit local businesses.

Their first stop was at สนามยิงธนู Archery Thai. Here the Grade 11 students interviewed Mr. Mr. Tanapat and learned about how Archery Thai was one of the first archery ranges in Thailand. The full interview will be released shortly, like and follow us to keep up to-date with all the latest events at EP Business.

The students also had the opportunity to have an archery lesson and had expert guidance from the instructors of Archery Thai.

We would like to thank the owners and staff at สนามยิงธนู Archery Thai for a wonderful and informative afternoon.

Grade 12 business students have produced some wonderful resin products. Over this semester they have slowly learned how to use this difficult material and improved with every batch.

In addition, they have raised enough money from their market to pay for today's field trip to สนามยิงธนู Archery Thai and OMG - Bar & Restaurant where they will interview small business owners to gain some insights and advice.
