Our hearts are with all of those who have been affected by the earthquake originating in Mandalay. IU ASEAN Gateway staff are safe, and wish everyone success in the recovery.

IU ASEAN Global Gateway Academic Director, Faridah Pawan, is on sabbatical away from IU on a USAID-funded project for teacher educators along the northwest Myanmar-Thai border. Wanlaya Pittayapitak, the Gateway’s program associate can continue to be reached.

Thailand’s Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn conferred IU’s Professor Michael A. McRobbie, University Chancellor & President Emeritus, an Honorary Doctorate from the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA). It took place on Jan. 6, 2025, on the occasion of NIDA’s 45th commencement ceremony. Congratulations!

AI and Information systems brought together IU faculty and ASEAN colleagues this fall. School of Education’s Curt Bonk & ASEAN colleagues participated in October in the E-Learn conference in Singapore; Kelley’s School of Business Bipin Prabhakar, Hillol Bala and Ramesh Venkataraman were at the ICIS conference in December. The Kelley faculty were accompanied by IU ASEAN Global Gateway Assistant, Walanya Pittayapitak.

Surabaya’s IU Alumni Association held a Thanksgiving celebration on Nov 30th. Amongst the attendees were Hariyono and Henny Tan (1994, 1995 alums). They inspired 27 family members to attend IU. Thank you to them and to Permata Bank that co-sponsored the event.
