A Vantage TEFL certification is your ticket to an exciting English teaching career abroad. We are a little different from most Thai-based TEFL schools.

Most TEFL course providers only do just that – train teachers. A few also run schools alongside their teacher training programs. Vantage, on the other hand, is involved in almost all aspects of the English Language Teaching (ELT) industry. Here are the major areas in which we are a player.

𝗢𝗻𝗲-𝘁𝗼-𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲: 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴

One of the most valuable aspects of a quality TEFL course is the opportunity to work directly with real English language learners.

In this one-to-one teaching practice session, a Vantage TEFL trainee works with a beginning-level English student to introduce vocabulary related to food and drink preferences.

By learning words such as sweet, sour, salty, spicy, and bitter, the student develops the language needed to talk about different tastes and express personal preferences in English.

These individual teaching sessions form part of our Observed Teaching Practice (OTP) program and provide significant benefits for trainee teachers.

✅ Develops teaching confidence in a supportive environment.
✅ Allows trainees to focus on one learner's needs, learning pace, and learning style.
✅ Provides immediate feedback from experienced teacher trainers.
✅ Builds practical classroom skills such as concept checking, pronunciation correction, and vocabulary presentation.
✅ Demonstrates how language is acquired through meaningful interaction rather than simply studying theory.

For many trainees, one-to-one teaching is the perfect bridge between TEFL methodology and managing a full classroom.

It allows them to refine their teaching techniques, gain valuable experience, and see firsthand the satisfaction that comes from helping a student communicate successfully in English.

At Vantage TEFL, we believe that real teaching practice with real students is essential preparation for a successful English teaching career.

Every lesson taught is another step toward becoming a confident and effective teacher.

A 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 (𝗢𝗧𝗣) 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 isn’t built on repetition—it’s built on variety.

Teaching different age groups, proficiency levels, and class types forces trainees to move beyond scripted lessons and develop real classroom adaptability.

What works with young learners won’t work with adults; what engages beginners may fall flat with advanced students. By experiencing this range firsthand, trainees learn to adjust their language, pacing, activities, and classroom management strategies in meaningful, practical ways.

This is exactly why a 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗺 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗶𝘅 𝗢𝗧𝗣𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹.

One or two lessons aren’t enough to encounter the unpredictability of real teaching. With multiple teaching practices, trainees have the opportunity to apply feedback, refine their approach, and make visible improvements over time.

Each session builds on the last—mistakes become lessons, and lessons become skills.

By the end of a well-structured OTP program, trainees aren’t just more confident—they’re genuinely prepared to step into a classroom and teach effectively across a wide range of contexts.

Observed teaching practice in TEFL provides immediate, constructive feedback from mentors, helping trainees refine classroom management, lesson planning, and teaching techniques in real time. It builds confidence and bridges theory with practice.

Key benefits:

• Real classroom teaching with actual students
• Improved classroom management and lesson structure
• Increased confidence through repeated practice
• Better preparation for interviews and demo lessons

In these photos, teacher Ally elicits key vocabulary related to activities students like—and don’t like—doing during their holidays.

By asking guided questions and drawing ideas from the class, she encourages students to actively produce language rather than simply receive it.

This approach builds engagement, checks prior knowledge, and helps students take ownership of the vocabulary as they share their personal preferences.

Teacher Marcos leads his A2 English students through a practical, engaging lesson on staying healthy—keeping the language simple, clear, and immediately useful in daily life.

He begins by introducing key vocabulary for common ailments such as a headache and a sore throat. sick. Using visuals and gestures, he checks understanding and gets students repeating the words with confidence.

Next, Marcos moves into a communicative activity. Students work in teams of three, asking and receiving health tips. This gives them a chance to personalize the language while building fluency at an appropriate level.

By the end of the class, students are not only more confident using A2-level English but also more aware of how to talk about their own health and lifestyle in real-world situations.

Prospective teachers come to Vantage TEFL from all over the world to learn how to succeed in the classroom.

In this lesson, a Bhutanese trainee confidently teaches feelings and emotions, introducing key vocabulary such as happy, sad, nervous, excited, and disappointed.

She models pronunciation, checks understanding, and uses simple, relatable questions to personalize the language.

Students then practice by sharing real experiences—talking about what makes them feel each emotion—which turns the lesson into meaningful communication rather than memorization.

Through this, the trainee demonstrates strong classroom presence, clear instruction, and the ability to engage students in authentic speaking practice.

𝗢𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 (OTPs)
New teachers are made in the classroom. This is where teaching theory is put into action and transformed into the practical skills needed for real classroom success.

In this OTP lesson, the teacher uses social media as a familiar and engaging topic to spark communication. Students learn and use relevant vocabulary to talk about the platforms they use, what they enjoy, and what they avoid.

The key takeaway is clear: the lesson gets students talking.

Through guided interaction, they actively practice their English while discovering their classmates’ social media habits and preferences—making the language both personal and meaningful.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗢𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀

An essential part of effective TEFL training is not just teaching—but watching experienced teachers in action. Observation allows trainees to see how real lessons are structured, how students are engaged, and how teachers manage the classroom in real time. It bridges the gap between theory and practice, giving new teachers a clear model to follow before stepping in front of their own class.

At Vantage TEFL, trainees learn directly from highly experienced trainers like Chris, who brings nearly three decades of classroom experience. Through guided observation, trainees gain insight into lesson pacing, clear instruction-giving, error correction, and how to confidently present language in a way students understand.

In this lesson, the communication topic is “TV Programmes.” Chris demonstrates how to teach the correct verbs associated with watching TV, followed by the appropriate prepositions used when discussing programmes at specific times.

The lesson then moves into a student-centered activity, where learners work in teams to create their own TV Guide page, complete with three programme listings. This final task reinforces the target language while encouraging creativity, collaboration, and real communication.

By observing lessons like this, trainees don’t just learn what to teach—they learn how to teach it effectively.

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗥𝗮𝗵𝗶𝗺!

At Vantage TEFL, every trainee completes six observed teaching practices (OTPs) with real students, gaining experience across a wide range of age groups, proficiency levels, and classroom settings—from primary schools to university environments.

This hands-on approach is what sets the course apart. It’s designed to help new teachers build real confidence, adapt quickly to different learning environments, and develop the practical skills needed to succeed in today’s classrooms.

Rahim was a February graduate and a good example of what this training can lead to. Just a short time after completing the course, he secured a full-time teaching position at a leading school in Chachoengsao, less than two hours outside Bangkok.

Rahim credited a lot of his success to the teaching practice component, which prepared him not only for the interview process but also for delivering strong demo lessons.
