We're looking for someone who is knowledgeable about 𝗔𝗣𝗔 𝗦𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲 (𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻) and has relevant academic training or experience in academic writing, editing, referencing, or scholarly publishing.

On Thursday 13 August 2026, Department of English, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University, held the award ceremony for the 2026 M. L. Ananchanok Ladavalya Pahnichaputt Prize for English Poetry in Room 706 of the Boromrajakumari Building.

Following careful deliberation over the six entries submitted this year, the judging panel, which comprises Dr Ming Panha and Dr Katarzyna Ancuta, selected the following prize recipients:

Joint First Prize
• Nattamon Montriwat, for “I thought it’s amazing how we all are starry anomalies”
• Ratanon Jiamsundutsadee, for “Today Shall Be The Day”

Runner-up Prize
Nudcha Phongprapat, for “End Times”

Department of English warmly congratulates all three prize recipients and extends our sincere gratitude to Dr Ming Panha and Dr Katarzyna Ancuta for the discernment and care with which they adjudicated the competition. We would also like to thank all six entrants for sharing their work and contributing to the continuing vitality of creative writing in English.

The Department is delighted to share the three prize-winning poems with the wider public. Readers are invited to read them in full in the images accompanying this post.

เมื่อวันพฤหัสบดีที่ 13 สิงหาคม 2569 ภาควิชาภาษาอังกฤษ คณะอักษรศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ได้จัดพิธีมอบรางวัลการประกวดกวีนิพนธ์ภาษาอังกฤษ รางวัลเงินทุนรองศาสตราจารย์ ดร.ม.ล.อานันท์ชนก ลดาวัลย์ พานิชพัฒน์ ประจำปี 2569 ณ ห้อง 706 อาคารบรมราชกุมารี

จากผลงานที่ส่งเข้าประกวดทั้งสิ้น 6 เรื่อง คณะกรรมการผู้ตัดสิน ซึ่งประกอบด้วย อาจารย์ ดร.มิ่ง ปัญหา และอาจารย์ Dr. Katarzyna Ancuta ได้พิจารณาผลงานอย่างถี่ถ้วน และมีมติมอบรางวัลแก่ผู้สร้างสรรค์ผลงานดังต่อไปนี้

On Tuesday 11 August 2026, Department of English, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University, had the honour of welcoming Mr Viktor Semenov, Chargé d’affaires a.i. of Ukraine to the Kingdom of Thailand, who delivered a special lecture entitled “Nuclear Safety: From Chornobyl to Today”. Mr Semenov also took part in the post-screening discussion of the documentary film "Chornobyl 22", presented as part of "Contemporary World Literature in English" course.

Mr Semenov was welcomed by Associate Professor Pasuree Luesakul, PhD, Associate Dean for International Affairs, and Associate Professor Nida Tiranasawasdi, PhD, Head of the Department of English, who attended the entire session, following the lecture, screening and ensuing discussion with keen interest.

Mr Semenov was accompanied by Mr Bohdan Ivashchenko, Second Secretary at the Embassy of Ukraine. Following the screening, both diplomats engaged in a lively and illuminating exchange of views with our students, responding to their questions and offering valuable perspectives on nuclear safety, historical memory and the continuing legacy of the Chornobyl disaster.

"Contemporary World Literature in English" course is offered as part of the Department of English curriculum and is convened by Associate Professor Verita Sriratana, PhD. Its first primary text was "Voices from Chernobyl" by the Belarusian Nobel laureate Svetlana Alexievich. In preparation for the event, more than 25 students enrolled on the course had read and critically analysed Alexievich’s polyphonic account of the catastrophe, which provided an important literary and historical foundation for the screening, lecture and discussion.

Marking the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl nuclear disaster, the event brought literary testimony, documentary film and contemporary history into meaningful dialogue, inviting students to reflect upon the enduring human, environmental and political consequences of nuclear catastrophe.

Department of English would like once again to express our sincere gratitude to the Embassy of Ukraine in the Kingdom of Thailand for making this timely and intellectually enriching exchange possible.

รองศาสตราจารย์ ดร.ภาสุรี ลือสกุล รองคณบดีฝ่ายวิรัชกิจ และรองศาสตราจารย์ ดร.ณิดา ติรณสวัสดิ์ หัวหน้าภาควิชาภาษาอังกฤษ ร่วมกล่าวต้อนรับนายวิกตอร์ เซเมนอฟในโอกาสดังกล่าว

นายวิกตอร์ เซเมนอฟมาเยือนนิสิตในห้องเรียนพร้อมกับนายบอห์ดาน อิวาชเชนโก เลขานุการโทแห่งสถานเอกอัครราชทูตยูเครนประจำราชอาณาจักรไทย ภายหลังการฉายภาพยนตร์ นักการทูตทั้งสองได้แลกเปลี่ยนข้อคิดเห็นกับนิสิตอย่างเป็นกันเองและเปี่ยมด้วยสาระ ทั้งยังตอบข้อซักถามและถ่ายทอดมุมมองอันทรงคุณค่าเกี่ยวกับความปลอดภัยทางนิวเคลียร์ ความทรงจำทางประวัติศาสตร์ ตลอดจนมรดกของหายนะชอร์โนบิลซึ่งยังคงส่งผลสืบเนื่องมาจนถึงปัจจุบัน

Department of English, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University, is pleased to share the latest episode of the Alliance On Air (Alliance Française Bangkok) podcast series on the topic of “Simone de Beauvoir: Why She Still Matters Today”, featuring Associate Professor Verita Sriratana, PhD, of the Department of English.

In conversation with host Sugus, Associate Professor Sriratana explores the life, thought, and continuing relevance of Simone de Beauvoir through five passages from her works, addressing questions of existentialist ethics, freedom, alterity, and the social construction of womanhood. The conversation also challenges some of the enduring misconceptions surrounding Beauvoir and considers what makes her thought remain strikingly relevant today.

On-Site Seminar: “Doing Comparative Literature from the South”

Department of English, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University, is pleased to share an upcoming on-site seminar, “Doing Comparative Literature from the South”, featuring Associate Professor Verita Sriratana, PhD, of the Department of English, as one of the invited speakers.

Organised by the Department of English Language and Literature, Faculty of Liberal Arts, Thammasat University, in collaboration with the Department of Literature and Research and Creation Division, Faculty of Humanities, Kasetsart University, the seminar brings together literary scholars from Thailand and Bangladesh to exchange perspectives on the practice of comparative literature from the Global South.

Associate Professor Sriratana will be in conversation with Associate Professor Mahruba Mowtushi of Brac University, Bangladesh, with Assistant Professor Wanrug Dowson of Thammasat University serving as moderator.

The seminar will address questions central to the contemporary practice of comparative literature: How do scholars in the Global South approach comparative literary studies? What methodologies, perspectives, and vantage points do they share? And in what ways might these approaches differ from those that have traditionally shaped the discipline in the Global North?

Department of English, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University, is pleased to invite students, colleagues, and members of the public to “Simone de Beauvoir: Why She Still Matters Today”, a public conference organised by Alliance Française Bangkok to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the passing of Simone de Beauvoir, one of the twentieth century’s most influential writers, philosophers, and feminist thinkers.

Associate Professor Verita Sriratana, PhD, of the Department of English, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University, will speak at the conference alongside Khun Kitiya Withayapraphat, Special Lecturer, French Language Tutor, Writer, Zine Artist, and Independent Scholar in Gender Studies.

Bringing together perspectives from academia and civil society, the conference will explore Beauvoir’s life, thought, and intellectual legacy, while asking why her ideas continue to resonate and how they might illuminate contemporary conversations about gender and gender equality in Thai society today.

ภาควิชาภาษาอังกฤษ คณะอักษรศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ขอประชาสัมพันธ์และเชิญชวนนิสิต คณาจารย์ และผู้สนใจเข้าร่วมงานเสวนา “ซีโมน เดอ โบวัวร์ กับแนวคิดที่โลกยังพูดถึง” จัดโดย สมาคมฝรั่งเศสกรุงเทพ (Alliance Française Bangkok) เนื่องในวาระครบรอบ 40 ปีแห่งการจากไปของ ซีโมน เดอ โบวัวร์ (Simone de Beauvoir) นักเขียน นักปรัชญา และนักคิดสตรีนิยมคนสำคัญแห่งศตวรรษที่ 20

ในโอกาสนี้ รองศาสตราจารย์ ดร.วริตตา ศรีรัตนา อาจารย์ประจำภาควิชาภาษาอังกฤษ คณะอักษรศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ได้รับเชิญเป็นวิทยากรร่วมกับ คุณกิติยา วิทยาประพัฒน์ อาจารย์พิเศษมหาวิทยาลัย ติวเตอร์ภาษาฝรั่งเศส นักเขียน ศิลปินทำซีน (Zine) และนักวิชาการอิสระด้านเพศสภาพศึกษา

งานเสวนาจะชวนสำรวจชีวิต แนวคิด และมรดกทางความคิดของโบวัวร์ ผ่านมุมมองจากแวดวงวิชาการและภาคประชาสังคม พร้อมตั้งคำถามว่าเหตุใดแนวคิดของโบวัวร์จึงยังคงก้องกังวานและมีความหมายในปัจจุบัน และแนวคิดเหล่านี้จะช่วยเปิดมุมมองต่อบทสนทนาว่าด้วยเพศสภาพและความเท่าเทียมทางเพศในสังคมไทยร่วมสมัยได้อย่างไร

Assistant Professor Dr. Napanant Montkhongtham has published a research article titled “Medical messages and the art of storytelling: Exploring creative communication techniques in TEDMED talks” in LEARN Journal: Language Education and Acquisition Research Network, 19(2), 774-801. https://doi.org/10.70730/MDZV8712

Abstract:
Storytelling is a powerful communicative means applied across various fields, including medical communication. This study aims to analyze narrative elements used in popular TEDMED talks from the 2010s to 2020s. Freytag’s five-stage pyramid combined with Burroway’s (2003) diagram of power struggle and the key constructs of social cognitive theory were used to examine the data. The majority of TEDMED speeches were found to use the stages of exposition, complication, climax, falling action, and resolution, as well as emphasize the power struggle to convey particular messages. Among the conflicts of man versus man, man versus nature, man versus society, man versus society and nature, and man versus himself, the man-versus-society conflict was the most common, highlighting challenges concerning medical systems and traditional beliefs. Different types of speaker-story proximity were used, with the portrayal of the speaker as the main character or the speaker being partially involved topping the list, indicating the key advantage of the first-person point of view, with its sense of intimacy. All key constructs of social cognitive theory were applied. The two most common were behavioral capability and locus of control, suggesting the significance of the power of information and the power of making one’s own choices. Further research could compare narrative elements applied in TED talks in other fields, including the humanities, social sciences, technology, and business.
