💊 ยา (yaa) = medicine / drug

When combined with other words, it creates many common vocabulary items you will hear in daily life.

ฉันกินยาแก้ปวด (chǎn gin yaa gâae bpùuat) = I take pain medicine.

เขากินยาแก้ไข้ (khǎo gin yaa gâae khâi) = He takes fever medicine.

ฉันต้องกินยาแก้ไอ (chǎn dtông gin yaa gâae ai) = I need to take cough medicine.

เขากินยานอนหลับ (khǎo gin yaa nɔɔn-làp) = He takes sleeping pills.

ฉันซื้อยาสีฟัน (chǎn sʉ́ʉ yaa sǐi fan) = I buy toothpaste.

หมอให้ยาฆ่าเชื้อ (mɔ̌ɔ hâi yaa khâa chʉ́a) = The doctor gives antibiotics.

น้ำมะพร้าว (náam má-phráao) = Coconut Water
น้ำแข็งใส (náam khǎeng sǎi) = Shaved Ice Dessert
ข้าวเหนียวมะม่วง (khâao nǐiao má-mûuang) = Mango Sticky Rice
ชาเย็น (chaa yen) = Thai Iced Tea

Example:
ฉันชอบดื่มน้ำมะพร้าวตอนอากาศร้อน
(chǎn châwp dùuem náam má-phráao dtawn aa-gàat rón)
= I like drinking coconut water when the weather is hot.

อากาศร้อน กินน้ำแข็งใสดีกว่า
(aa-gàat rón gin náam khǎeng sǎi dìi gwàa)
= It’s hot, shaved ice sounds better!

How to Say “Me Too” in Thai?

📌Basic Phrase
ฉันก็เหมือนกัน (chǎn gâw mʉ̌ean gan) = Me too
เหมือนกัน (mʉ̌ean gan) = Same / Me too


ฉัน (chǎn) = I (neutral)
ก็ (gâw) = also / too
เหมือนกัน (mʉ̌ean gan) = same

Example:
A: ฉันชอบอาหารไทย
(chǎn chôrp aa-hǎan thai)
= I like Thai food.

B: ฉันก็เหมือนกัน
(chǎn gâw mʉ̌ean gan)
= Me too.

⭐ You can change “ฉัน” depending on who you are:
ผมก็เหมือนกัน (phǒm gâw mʉ̌ean gan) = Me too (male speaker)
เราก็เหมือนกัน (rao gâw mʉ̌ean gan) = Me too (casual)

Many Thai learners know that เป็น means “to be”.
But in Thai, เป็น is also used to talk about skills and abilities.

"เป็น (bpen) = to know how to / to have a skill"

Structure:

⭐️ Subject + verb + เป็น

ว่ายน้ำเป็น (wâai náam bpen) = to know how to swim

ฉันว่ายน้ำเป็น (chǎn wâai náam bpen) = I can swim.

ขับรถเป็น (khàp rót bpen) = to know how to drive

เขาขับรถเป็น (khǎo khàp rót bpen) = He can drive.

พูดภาษาไทยเป็น (phûut phaa-sǎa Thai bpen) = to know how to speak Thai

ฉันพูดภาษาไทยเป็นนิดหน่อย (chǎn phûut phaa-sǎa Thai bpen nít nɔ̀i) = I can speak a little Thai.

⭐️ Negative Form:

ไม่ + verb + เป็น

ฉันว่ายน้ำไม่เป็น (chǎn wâai náam mâi bpen) = I can't swim.

More Skill Examples

ฉันทำอาหารเป็น (chǎn tham aa-hǎan bpen) = I can cook.

เขาเล่นกีตาร์เป็น (khǎo lên gi-dtaa bpen) = He can play guitar.

ฉันอ่านภาษาไทยเป็น (chǎn àan phaa-sǎa Thai bpen) = I can read Thai.

เขาเขียนภาษาไทยเป็น (khǎo khǐan phaa-sǎa Thai bpen) = He can write Thai.

เธอเต้นเป็น (thəə dtên bpen) = She can dance.

ฉันใช้ตะเกียบเป็น (chǎn chái dtà-gìiap bpen) = I can use chopsticks.

เขาเล่นสกีเป็น (khǎo lên sà-gee bpen) = He can ski.

ฉันพิมพ์ดีดเป็น (chǎn phim dìit bpen) = I can type.

Keep practicing and you’ll soon be able to say many things you ทำเป็น (tham bpen) = know how to do.

It’s called:

🔹 ไปยาลน้อย (bpai-yaan-nói)

It is used to show that a word or phrase has been shortened.
It works like “etc.” or an abbreviation mark in English.

Example:

กรุงเทพฯ (krung-thêep…) = กรุงเทพมหานคร (krung-thêep má-hǎa ná-korn) = Bangkok

>> “ฯ” shows the word is shortened.
