เราเริ่มจากโครงสร้างบ้านแบบเรียบง่าย — หลังคาจั่ว ผนังขาว อิฐ ไม้ — แล้วค่อยๆ เติมความ เพี้ยนเบาๆ ลงไปในจังหวะที่ตั้งใจ รูปทรงบางมุมดูแปลก แต่ไม่ได้แปลกเพื่อโชว์ มันคือการดีไซน์ที่ชวนให้คนอยู่ตีความได้เรื่อยๆ
TYH House เลยกลายเป็นบ้านที่อยู่สบาย แต่ไม่เฉย มีความเคลื่อนไหวแบบเบาๆ ที่อยู่ร่วมกับเมืองและความคิดของคนในบ้านได้พอดี

TYH House
A house that feels familiar — until it doesn’t.
Built on a mix of everyday architectural forms — gable roofs, white walls, bricks, timber — TYH House quietly distorts the ordinary. Strategic shifts in form and proportion add a touch of the peculiar, creating a sense of subtle movement throughout.
It’s a space made for calm living, but also one that gently invites reflection, curiosity, and reinterpretation.

YUNG๗ เกิดจากการตั้งคำถามที่ว่า สิ่งใหม่จะอยู่ร่วมกับสิ่งเก่าอย่างไร นอกจากการออกแบบรูปร่างหน้าตาให้มีความต่างจากเดิมเพื่อไม่ให้ดึงความสนใจจนลดทอนความสำคัญของยุ้งข้าวไม้หลังเก่าที่มีคุณค่าลง แนวคิดนี้ยังต่อเนื่องมาถึงเรื่องของการใช้สี ซึ่งสีที่ปรากฏในงานแม้ไม่ได้เลือกใช้เพื่อกลมกลืนเป็นเนื้อเดียวกัน แต่เป็นสีที่เกิดจากความตั้งใจที่จะหยิบเอาอารมณ์ และร่องรอยในอดีตที่ฝังอยู่ในพื้นที่นี้มาตีความใหม่ให้สดขึ้น ทั้งสีชมพูที่เป็นตัวแทนรากวัฒนธรรมมอญซึ่งอยู่บนผืนผ้าสไบและเป็นสีของอาคารบ้านเรือนที่ตั้งอยู่ในละแวกเดียวกัน สีส้มอิฐที่มาจากสีของปล่องโรงสีข้าวโบราณ ความสดนี้ไม่ได้ต้องการสร้างความโดดเด่นเพื่อเรียกร้องทางสายตา แต่เป็นการขยายเสียงของวัตถุดิบเดิมที่มีอยู่แล้วให้สามารถสื่อสารกับคนรุ่นใหม่ได้ ถูกวางเคียงข้างกับสีไม้ยุ้งข้าวที่ยังคงรักษาความเคร่งขรึมไว้ โดยมีสีกลางอย่างสีครีมคอยเกลี่ยให้เป็นความสดที่นุ่มนวลขึ้น อีกทั้งยังทำหน้าที่เหมือนเป็นพื้นหลังและเวทีแสดงที่ทำให้ทุกสีพูดได้ แต่ไม่แย่งกันพูด

โปรเจคนี้เริ่มต้นจากทางเจ้าของได้ไซท์นาขั้นบันไดที่อยู่ติดกับถนนเส้นหลวงพระบาง-ตาดกวางสี และรอบบริเวณนี้ยังไม่มีโรงแรมนาขั้นบันได ทางเจ้าของจึงเห็นศักยภาพในการทำโรงแรมนาขั้นบันไดให้เหมาะกับกลุ่มคนรุ่นใหม่ที่รักในการท่องเที่ยวเชิงธรรมชาติและกลมกลืนกับวิถีชีวิตความเป็นอยู่ของท้องถิ่น

ทางเราได้เริ่มออกแบบโดยวิเคราะห์บริบทของไซท์เพื่อหาแนวทางการจัดโซนนิ่ง โดยผืนนาขั้นบันไดแห่งนี้มีลักษณะเป็นสี่เหลี่ยมคางหมูหน้าแคบ ลึก ยาวและไปป่องออกตรงปลายไซท์ ทิศเหนืออยู่ติดกับถนนสาธารณะ และรอบขอบไซท์ทางทิศตะวันออกและทิศใต้เป็นเนินสูงที่ลาดลงไปตรงกลางเป็นแอ่งนาขั้นบันไดตรงทางทิศตะวันตก ทำให้เมื่อเราวางห้องพักเกาะที่ริมรอบขอบไซท์จะสามารถเห็นวิวนาขั้นบันไดได้ทั่วถึง และยังสามารถมองข้ามไปเห็นวิวแม่น้ำโขงทางทิศตะวันตกได้ด้วย

เนื่องจากทีมผู้ออกแบบต้องการให้ผู้ที่มาพักในโรงแรมได้รับประสบการณ์ที่ Exclusive และ Privacy อย่างสูงที่สุด ทีมออกแบบจึงเลือกวางอาคารล็อบบี้ไว้ที่ด้านหน้าเพื่อทำหน้าที่เป็นแลนด์มาร์คเชื้อเชิญคน และ เป็นขอบเขตกันคนนอกในเวลาเดียวกัน และเราเลือกวางห้องพักในแนวลึกเพื่อสร้างความเป็นส่วนตัวให้แก่ผู้ที่มาพักได้มากยิ่งขึ้น โดยการวางห้องพักแบ่งออกเป็น 3 โซน คือโซน Type B จะตั้งอยู่จุดเชื่อมผ่านระหว่างอาคารล็อบบี้กับโซนห้องพักที่เหลือ เราเลือกให้ห้อง Type B อยู่ในแอเรียนี้เพราะห้องพักนี้มีจุดขายอยู่ที่สระส่วนตัวเหมาะกับแขกที่ชอบการสังสรรค์ และมีไลฟ์สไตล์ที่เปิดเผย ส่วนโซนถัดมาคือโซน Type A ที่ตั้งอยู่ในส่วนลึกสุดของไซท์ โดยห้องพักประเภทนี้มีขนาดที่เล็กกว่า และ เปลี่ยนจากสระว่ายน้ำมาเป็น อ่างจาคูซี่ตรงระเบียงแทน เนื่องจากระยะที่อยู่ในสุดของไซท์ห้องพักกลุ่มนี้จึงมีความเป็นส่วนตัวสูงมากเหมาะกับแขกที่ต้องการความสงบ หรือแขกที่แพลนจะเข้าพักเป็นเวลานาน และโซนสุดท้ายโซน Type C ซึ่งตั้งอยู่ระหว่าโซน Type A และ สระว่ายน้ำรวมของโครงการ ห้องพักประเภทนี้เป็นห้องขนาด 2 ห้องนอน+ห้องนั่งเล่น และ สระว่ายน้ำขนาดใหญ่ ตั้งอยู่ในจุดที่ห่างจากอาคารอื่นๆ เหมาะกับกลุ่มคนที่มาเป็นครอบครัว และ ต้องการความเป็นส่วนตัวสูง

ในการออกแบบรายละเอียดของห้องพัก สองสิ่งที่ทีมออกแบบคอนเซิร์นในช่วงแรกคือ เราจะออกแบบอย่างไร ให้อาคารเดี่ยวขนาดเล็กที่มีกิจกรรมที่แปลกออกไปจากวัฒนธรรมท้องถิ่นอย่างสระว่ายน้ำ เมื่อมาตั้งอยู่ด้วยกันเป็นจำนวนมากบนพื้นนาขั้นบันไดแล้ว เราสามารถมองเข้าไปแล้วดูไม่รู้สึกเคอะเขินโดดออกมา และ ในมุมกลับเมื่อเราอยู่ภายในห้องพักที่มีประตูบานสไลด์บานกระจกขนาดใหญ่เป็นตัวเฟรมระหว่างห้องพักกับนาขั้นบันได เราจะรู้สึกอิสรภาพและมั่นใจในความเป็นส่วนตัวของเรา ดังนั้นเพื่อตอบประเด็นที่กล่าวมาทีมออกแบบได้ศึกษางานสถาปัตยกรรมท้องถิ่น และ เราก็เลือกที่จะหยิบยืมภาษาทางสถาปัตยกรรมของอาคารท้องถิ่นอย่างเล้าข้าวมาประยุกต์ดัดแปลงสร้างห้องพักให้ได้ฟีลกลมกลืนกับบริบทท้องถิ่น ที่ยังมีความสะดวกสบายตามไลฟ์สไตล์คนเมือง โดยเล้าข้าวเดิมเป็นโรงเก็บข้าวแบบเรือนยกสูง หลังคาทรงจั่วชัน และ ผนังกรุด้วยไม้รอบด้านมีช่องเปิดเพียงเล็กน้อยสร้างบรรยากาศภายในมืดครึ้มสลัวๆ สงบ และดูมีความเป็นส่วนตัวสูง เราออกแบบให้หลังคาจั่วของห้องพักยื่นออกมาคลุมพื้นที่ระเบียงและกดหลังคาให้ระดับท้องเชิงชายสูงกว่าระดับห้องนอนที่สองเมตร เพื่อสร้างเฉดเงาเพิ่มบรรยากาศสลัวๆและความเป็นส่วนตัวให้กับพื้นที่ตรงระเบียง และส่วนภายในของห้อง นอกจากนั้นเรายังเลือกที่จะเล่นกับแมสห้องพักด้วยการดันด้านหนึ่งออกมาข้างหน้าเสมอกับชานบ้าน เพื่อสร้างความเป็นส่วนตัวจากห้องพักข้างเคียง

สำหรับการออกแบบอาคารล็อบบี้เราพยายามสร้างความกลมเกลืนด้วยการเล่นกับหลังคาทรงจั่วของเล้าข้าว อย่างไรก็ดี ด้วยทั้งขนาดของอาคารที่มีขนาดทั้งยาวและลึกกว่าอาคารห้องพัก และตำแหน่งที่ตั้งของอาคารที่มี่ความชัน เราจึงเลือกเล่นกับหลังคาจั่วแตกต่างออกไป โดยเราเลือกที่จะวางอาคารเป็นรูปโค้งยาวขนานรับไปกับแนวนาขั้นบันได แต่เนื้องด้วยอาคารมีความลึกและเราพยายามลดการขุดเจาะปรับเปลี่ยนสภาพพื้นดิน เราจึงออกแบบให้อาคารแบ่งเป็นสองระดับ คือระดับสูงที่มีโถงรับรองและร้านอาหาร และระดับที่ต่ำกว่าที่เป็นทั้งชานอเนกประสงค์ระนาบเดียวกันกับทุ่งนา ซึ่งจากปัจจัยเหล่านี้ เหล่าจึงเปลี่ยนวิธีการออกแบบจั่วให้สปริทตามระดับพื้น เพื่อทำให้ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างขนาดที่ว่าง แสงเงา และ การมองผ่านหลังคาดูลงตัวสมส่วนมากขึ้น

โปรเจคนี้เป็นการทดลองหาจุดเชื่อมโยงที่ลงตัวของคนเมืองที่ต้องการเรียนรู้และหาประสบการณ์ของความเป็นท้องถิ่นขณะเดียวกันก็ยังต้องการความสะดวกสบายในวิถีชีวิตแบบปัจจุบันด้วย จึงเกิดการประยุกต์ผสมผสานของไลฟ์สไตล์สมัยใหม่ให้เข้ากับสถาปัตยกรรมพื้นถิ่นได้อย่างกลมกลืน

RICE FIELD RESORT

This project started when the owner acquired a terraced rice field site located next to the road from Luang Prabang to Tad Kuang Si. The surrounding area had no rice terrace hotels, and the owner saw the potential to create a rice terrace hotel that would cater to a new generation of travelers who love nature tourism and seek harmony with local lifestyles.

We began designing by analyzing the context of the site to determine the zoning approach. The rice field site is shaped like a trapezoid, narrow at the front, deep and long, with the end expanding outward. To the north, it is adjacent to a public road, while the eastern and southern boundaries feature high slopes leading down to a terraced rice field basin, and to the west, there is a view of the Mekong River. This layout allows us to place the rooms around the site’s perimeter, providing excellent views of the terraced rice fields and the river beyond.

Since the design team wanted to offer guests an exclusive and private experience, we chose to place the lobby building at the front as a landmark to invite guests in while acting as a boundary from outsiders. The guest rooms are arranged in a deep layout to enhance privacy. The rooms are divided into three zones: Zone Type B is positioned at the junction between the lobby building and the other guest room areas. This type of room features a private pool, ideal for guests who enjoy socializing and have an open lifestyle. The next zone is Type A, located at the deepest part of the site. These rooms are smaller and have a whirlpool bath on the balcony instead of a pool. Because these rooms are in the farthest part of the site, they provide high levels of privacy, ideal for guests seeking tranquility or for those planning to stay long-term. The final zone, Type C, lies between Type A and the shared pool of the project. These rooms feature two bedrooms, a living room, and a large pool, and are situated far from the other buildings, making them perfect for families seeking privacy.

In designing the guest rooms, the team had two main concerns. First, how could we design small standalone buildings with pools—an element unusual to the local culture—so that they wouldn’t look awkward or out of place when grouped together on the terraced rice field site? Second, how could we make sure that when inside the rooms with large sliding glass doors that framed the view of the rice fields, guests would feel a sense of freedom while also being confident in their privacy? To address these concerns, the design team studied local architecture and chose to borrow elements from traditional rice barns (known as "lao khao"), adapting them to create guest rooms that blend harmoniously with the local context, while still offering the comfort of modern urban lifestyles. Traditionally, these rice barns were elevated, with steep gable roofs and wooden walls with small openings that created a dark, quiet, and private atmosphere. In the guest room design, we incorporated gable roofs that extended over the balcony and elevated the ceiling by two meters above the sleeping area to create shading, enhancing privacy and providing a subdued atmosphere on the balcony. We also pushed one side of the room outward to align with the porch, ensuring greater privacy from adjacent rooms.

For the lobby building, we aimed for harmony by playing with the gable roof design of the rice barn. However, due to the size and shape of the building, which is longer and deeper than the guest rooms, and the steep site, we chose to design the roof differently. The building is curved to follow the contour of the terraced rice fields. To minimize soil disruption, we divided the building into two levels: the upper level with a lobby and restaurant, and a lower level that blends seamlessly with the rice fields, serving as a multipurpose terrace. As a result, we modified the gable roof to split along the levels, balancing the space, light, shadow, and roofline to create a harmonious relationship.

This project is an experiment in finding the perfect balance for urban dwellers who seek to learn about and experience local culture while still enjoying the comforts of modern living. The result is a fusion of contemporary lifestyles with traditional local architecture.
