: "Michael (not his real name), a 24-year-old professional, was tested positive for human mmunodeficiency virus (HIV) earlier this year. Aside from his 27-year-old partner, no other people he regularly interacts with is aware of his circumstance. He is afraid he might lose his job and the attached health insurance coverage to it. He is scared of the disappointment this may cause to his parents, as well as the succeeding disgrace that will haunt his family. He fears his friends will avoid him. He is frightened by the thought that people will judge and talk about him. He is terrorized by all possible forms of social stigma accompanying his medical condition."

"BHUTAN: To promote healthy and active ageing which are related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), the Social and Cultural Committee presented the detailed findings to the house on the issue. Presenting the report, The Chairman Kinga of the Social and Cultural Committee said that the rationale behind such report is to fulfill the provision of constitution and to meet the SDG’s “Leave no one behind” agenda. He also pointed out that promoting positive ageing and bringing improvement to our elderly citizens shall also lead to Gross National Happiness in its true context."

"Kasymalieva knew these issues weren’t a priority in the Kyrgyz parliament having reported as a journalist for over 10 years on women migrants, child marriage and the often brutal abduction of young women who are then forced into marriage.

But Kasymalieva, 33, was surprised by the total disregard for issues impacting women in the majority Muslim country in central Asia bordering China that is home to about six million people."

AFPPD will convene the 12th General Assembly in Colombo, Sri Lanka from 7 to 8 October 2017. Over 150 participants, including 82 Members of Parliament and 37 national committee parliamentary staff from 24 Asia-Pacific countries, will jointly review and evaluate the mid-term implementation status of AFPPD’s Strategic Plan 2016-2019.
