How can we use storytelling through comics to honor the heroes and machines that move our world?

Since January, Grade 3 students have been on a truly unique PBL journey shaped by their voice, choice, and curiosity.

What began as a simple interest in drawing, grew into something much bigger.

Students filled their pages with detailed cars, planes, ships, and characters - and from there, they transformed their ideas into original comic books inspired by real-life heroes and powerful stories. 🎨📖

It all started with the unforgettable William Rankin escape room experience 👏
where students worked together to think, solve, and “escape” to safety.

From there, they explored different hero paths:
✈️ Air Group — William Rankin
Students discovered a story of survival, courage, and resilience as he fell through a storm and lived to tell it.

🌊 Water Group — Richard Harris
Through the Thai Cave Rescue, students explored bravery, teamwork, and calm decision-making under pressure.
Water Group — Violet Jessop
Her life reminded students of the importance of BRAVERY, CALMNESS, and resilience during frightening moments.

🏎️ Land Group — Michael Schumacher and Lando Norris
Students learned that perseverance, mindset, and passion also define what it means to be a hero.
Land Group — Tenzing Norgay
His journey taught students about PERSEVERANCE, TEAMWORK, and strength in the face of great challenges.
And along the way, students made a powerful realization: Anyone can be a hero, including themselves. 🥹

Across subjects, their learning came to life:
Math — Students created and solved real-world problems connected to their heroes and designed pixel style characters while exploring area (length x width).
🌍 Social Studies — Students built timelines, organizing events in chronological order.
✍️ English Language Arts— Comic panels were enhanced with similes, idioms, and onomatopoeia to engage readers (that’s YOU!)
⚜️Design — Students used creative tools such as natural light, tracing, and even AI to bring their ideas to life.
👩‍🎨 Specialists — Learning was also integrated across subjects to deepen understanding and CREATIVITY.
This has been a student-driven journey, where the children took OWNERSHIP of their learning and LED US in ways that were inspiring, surprising at times and deeply meaningful.

Highlights: Students will use LEGO as a powerful learning tool—designing, testing, and improving their ideas. From building load-bearing bridges to participating in a "Shark Tank" style pitch, they will master problem-solving and teamwork.

Growing a greener community, together. 🌱

This project began with a meaningful question:
How can we use nature responsibly to better our communities?

Grade 2 Students explored air quality around the school, investigated how plants help clean the air, and connected their learning to the health of their environment. They learned from experts and worked with school leadership to identify ways to improve outdoor spaces.

Students explored ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle, with a strong focus on using plants to make the environment greener and healthier. They created toys and games from recyclable materials, used seeds for artwork, and studied how plants improve air quality. Students also designed ideas to help make the KPIS environment more sustainable.

Across subjects, learning came to life. Students explored plant science 🔬, measured plant growth and analyzed air quality data 🧮. They developed a deeper sense of responsibility for their environment and applied their persuasive writing skills to encourage meaningful action within their community. 🌍

Through hands-on workshops and expert sessions, they discovered how small actions can make a big difference.

This was more than a project. It was students taking action to create a healthier, more sustainable community. 🌏 💡

At KPIS, Project-Based Learning empowers students to take responsibility and create solutions that make a difference.
