📚 Education works best when young people have a real say in how they learn. ✍🏻

This International Day of Education, we asked youth from the Learning and Education 2030 Networking Group how education can be co-designed to be inclusive, relevant, and future-ready.

UNESCO continues to advance by strengthening education systems and elevating youth voices as drivers of education transformation.

The number of children and young people has risen for the seventh consecutive year, up to 273 million, driven by population growth, crises, and shrinking budgets. This is the main finding of the 2026 GEM Report Unesco, the world’s reference on the state of education.

One in six children of school age worldwide are excluded from education, and only two in three students complete secondary school. Yet many countries are making significant progress, highlighting the importance of national context when setting targets and designing policies.

🌏 Education systems perform best when the people they serve help shape them.📚

For young people and students, participation in education decision-making is closely linked to the relevance, legitimacy and effectiveness of public policy.

International 2026 focuses on youth as co-creators of education at a time of rapid technological change, growing inequality and rising demands for democratic accountability.

The question is no longer whether youth should be involved in education governance, but whether participation is meaningful enough to influence decisions in practice.

Bangkok Climate Action Week matters because it brings together people who drive climate solutions in Asia’s cities and communities.

From 28 September to 4 October 2025, Bangkok will host a regional platform where diverse stakeholders share practical strategies for resilience, equity, and sustainability. And INECC will be there as well.

This year, our sessions focus on three priorities.
- Accessible climate finance.
- Practical green skills for a just transition.
- Localised adaptation and mitigation that turn plans into changes communities can feel.

INECC’s goal is clear: to keep people at the centre and make cities climate-ready.
