On 12 May 2026, we visited the ASEAN Center for Academic Initiatives of The University of Osaka at Mahidol University’s Salaya Campus. 🌏
During the visit, JSPS Bangkok Office introduced JSPS international programs and the activities of the Bangkok Office. We also had the opportunity to learn about the initiatives of The University of Osaka from Specially Appointed Assistant Professor Sathida Kanjamapornkul (Institute for International Initiatives) and Ms. Sachiko Nishikawa from the Thailand-Japan Research Collaboration Center on Emerging and Re-emerging Infections (RCC-ERI).
We exchanged views on strengthening researcher networks between Japan and Thailand. It is hoped that this visit will lead to further academic cooperation and exchange in the future. 🤝

On 21 April 2026, we held a meeting with the ASEAN University Network (AUN) to prepare the Postdoctoral Fellowships for Research in Japan—Short-term Program (PA) for ASEAN and African countries for the 2027 fiscal year (Tentative Dispatch Period: July 2027 – March 2028).
To ensure a smooth application process, we will work in close collaboration moving forward.

On 20 April 2026, Representative Mr. Yutaka Furuya, M.A. and Recruiting Manager Mr. Norio Yoshikawa from the SIT ASEAN Satellite Office of Shibaura Institute of Technology visited our office.
We introduced the activities of JSPS, with a particular focus on the role and responsibilities of the JSPS Bangkok Office, as well as its alumni networking initiatives. We also exchanged views on the role of universities in the AI era and the factors that attract talent and foster collaboration. The discussion led us to think about the significance of universities establishing satellite offices or overseas hubs in ASEAN countries, including Thailand.

JSPS Bangkok Office new staff members have arrived in April 2026!✨
We took our first “family photo”, smiling together while holding up “Su-Su Chan”, the original character of the JSPS Bangkok Office. We also wore traditional Songkran shirts to celebrate the Songkran Festival (Thai New Year).

On March 24, 2026, National Research Council of Thanland (NRCT) held Press Conference on the STS forum Japan-Thailand Symposium 2026 at National Research Council of Thanland (NRCT), Bangkok, Thailand.
At the panel discussion on "Co-creating the Future with the STS forum Japan-Thailand Synposium 2026", Director Yoshio Otani presented the perspectives from international organization on Thailand's role on the global stage.

On March 20, 2026, the JSPS Bangkok Office, in cooperation with the College of Multidisciplinary and Interdisciplinary Studies, Chiang Mai University, held a JSPS Guidance Seminar in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
At the seminar, Director Yoshio Otani delivered the opening remarks, followed by a presentation on JSPS and its international programs by International Program Associate Dai Liping. Participants from various faculties and departments of Chiang Mai University actively engaged in the session, asking insightful questions and showing strong interest in JSPS programs.

On March 20, 2026, Assoc. prof. SHIRAISHI Soichiro and Ms. KASAI Fumi from Hirosaki University visited our office.
We discussed on the research trends in the humanities and social sciences in Thailand, and possibility of collaborative research between universities in Japan and Thailand. We also introduced the activities of JSPS, including our fellowship programs and international initiatives.

On March 16, 2026, students from Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology visited our office, as part of the study training in Thailand.
Our Director OTANI Yoshio gave the opening remarks, followed by Deputy Director YABUTA Kazumi’s introduction to JSPS and its activities to promote academic exchange and international collaboration. We also introduced Japanese universities with Thai Offices while showing their posters.
