“The Founder”, 2016

It’s the last Friday of the month 🎉 And you know what that means? That’s right! A new episode of . This week, we are going to explore a film called “The Founder”, a biographical story about a business that is well-known worldwide. We bet you, and even your grandparents or young siblings, all have used services from this company. If you want to find out which company this is, then keep reading!

📌“The Founder” is a 2016 American biographical drama. It is about the story of Ray Kroc, a 52-year-old businessman, and his creation of the McDonald's restaurant chain. He first saw the potential of the burger restaurant owned by two brothers Mac and Dick McDonald, so he bought the franchise. He then further developed this business, making McDonald’s the world's largest global fast-food restaurant chain today.
The film intersects many valuable lessons learned from the success of Ray Kroc. We would like to talk about 3 interesting concepts which we think would be applicable for our followers.

📌Today, AUS Club will be exploring an interesting Tech Startup project in Vietnam.

🦄Vietnam’s booming tech startup sector is a rising star in the ASEAN market, posting high economic growth in the past 10 years. The country is in the period of golden population structure, where over 42% of the population is under the age of 25. By taking advantage of this along with its readiness for digital transformation, the country sees increasing opportunities for growth in the startup industry. This led to the establishment of the Vietnam Silicon Valley (VSV) project that aims to promote the growth of tech startups in the country.

🧚‍♀️VSV is being recognized and funded by the United States to support local startups in the country. It focuses heavily on the tech sector, to prepare the country for the digital economy.

VSV's Objectives:
✨Create an ecosystem or business environment that is suitable for tech startups.
✨Build strong networks with international business partners
✨Focus on making Vietnam a base for the development of applications and technological products, as well as becoming the world's leading service providers
✨Focus on developing domestic software company

There are 4 main activities within Vietnam Silicon Valley:
1. Projects within VSV
2. Business and investment foundation training
3. Product development training
4. Boot Camp

⏰Today, Vietnam has emerged as an ASEAN startup hub, equipping with skillful human resources in the engineering and technology field. This offers a lot of incentives for tech giants, including Samsung, to raise investment there.

😁Meet Zhang Yiming: the man behind 'TikTok', a new era social media app that has shaken the world’s social platform landscape.

📌Have you ever wondered who is the person behind the success of Tiktok, the fast-growing Chinese-owned social media platform that has over 732 million users in July 2020? Today, will be introducing him to all of you.

✨This man is Zhang Yiming, the founder of ByteDance — a parent company of TikTok. After graduating in 2005, Zhang got his first job as an engineer at a startup company called Kuxun, where he gained so much trust because of his high responsibilities and dedication.

✨After many years of experience working in the industry, he finally founded ByteDance, and later launched TikTok in 2016 under the concept of “think simple, made easy”. One of the keys to the success of TikTok is the ability to understand consumers’ needs. The company’s management team has made it compulsory for the executives to make their videos on the platform and must reach a certain amount of likes. This serves as a way for the employees to learn about their product through self-experience, which leads to a better understanding of users. This allows the platform to draw mass Gen Z users’ growth and engagement.

✨TikTok’s strength has made a huge impact on the social media industry. It is considered the most formidable direct competitor for Instagram, as can be seen in IG’s recent attempt in releasing a similar feature like Reels to capture its user base.

🦄Zhang Yimming is regarded as a very talented CEO. His strong work ethic and commitment in always trying to improve and develop are what allows TikTok to become the 7th Social Media platform in the world (measured by the number of users in July 202) in just 4-5 years.

😁Have you wondered how a small island country like Singapore became a leading entrepreneurial hub with the world’s 4th largest startup ecosystem, on par with digital powerhouses like Australia and America?

📌Today will take everyone on a journey to unlock the secret to success in the development of Singapore’s startup ecosystem!

CEO Tim Cook, The Leader of Success 🚀

👨‍💻Tim Cook has just marked his 10th anniversary as Apple’s CEO on the 25th of August after taking the helm from Steve Jobs, the father of modern digital devices like iPhone, iPod, Mac, and of course, the game-changing tech company Apple. Even though Apple's technology isn't as riveting, exciting, and shocking as it did in Jobs’s era, the company’s performance did not drop at all.

⏳ Over the past 10 years under Cook’s management, we witnessed 👩‍🔬many of Apple’s blooming innovations, from the upgraded iPhone, iPad, and Mac to completely new products like Airpod and Apple watch. All of which has generated enormous growth for Apple. One of the secrets of success comes from Cook’s effort to build strong customer bases through the development of iCloud, the built-in cloud system that allows users to keep all their data and information in one place across all devices. 👫This creates an exceptional experience for customers and keeps their retention rates high.

📈In the 3rd quarter of 2021, Apple has set a new record with its revenue of $81,434 million from a 50% rise in iPhone sales. This shows that while Tim Cook may not be a master of tech designer and developer like Steve Jobs, he's an exceptional marketer and strategist who is capable of turning Apple into today’s world-leading tech company.

📌App War- a movie about startup

Today, AUS Friday Night would like to present you with a Thai startup movie “APP War”

✨“APP War” is a movie that offers you a glimpse into the process of building a startup from the beginning to the pitching stage in an easy-to-understand way. It is a story about 2 groups of aspiring young entrepreneurs who concurrently come up with similar startup ideas. Of course, when it comes to business, duplicates mean competition.

Each team has to leverage tactics(including dirty ones!) to develop the best application and beat one another.

🔘One point worth mentioning is that this film is being supported by the National Innovation Agency (NIA) as well.

While there are so many interesting startup vocabularies in the film, there is one term that really catches our eyes: “Series A”. Hmm, so what is it? Is this a Korean series? Well, let’s find out 🤔
