🎓✨ Waseda University (Japan) is granting a scholarship opportunity for exchange students studying at the School of International Liberal Studies (SILS) starting from the Fall 2026 semester.

📌 Requirement: The exchange student must enroll in the School of International Liberal Studies (SILS)

Purpose
The School of International Liberal Studies (SILS), Waseda University received funds in 2013 from the Japanese government under the “Re-Inventing Japan Project - ASEAN International Mobility for Students Programme (AIMS Program).” The purpose of the AIMS Program is to foster cosmopolitan, global human resources who can take active roles on the world stage and pursue success at both the global and local levels. Though AIMS program had ended already, however, this AIMS Scholarship will help incoming students from Waseda University’s Core Partner Universities during their study at Waseda University.

*Core Partner Universities are University of Malaya, Universitas Indonesia, Chulalongkorn University, Thammasat University, De La Salle University and Universiti Brunei Darussalam.



Scholarship Amount
\200,000/student (1 year) *\100,000/student (1 semester)



Application Requirements
The applicant must be a student applying for School of International Liberal Studies from one of AIMS Core Partner Universities and enrolled in Waseda University for one semester/year. The applicant must also fulfill the following requirements:

(1) The student must be an exceptional student with a strong academic record, but due to financial difficulties, is unable to study abroad in Japan.

(2) The monthly financial support from your guarantors in your home country during your life in Japan will be less than \148,000. *
*A evidence will be needed to submit at the time of application.

(3) The student will not receive any financial support from their home university/country, a foundation in Japan, or other organization.



How to Apply
Students who wish to receive the scholarship must apply.

After enrollment at Waseda University, please contact at by your Waseda email address by October 2, 2026 to gain more detailed information regarding application.



Results
After a careful screening, results will be announced to your Waseda email address by end of December 2026 from SILS Office. Detailed notification will only be sent to successful candidates.

Method of Payment
After the student officially enrolled in Waseda University, the full amount of the scholarship will be remitted once to a Japanese bank account under the student’s name. So please make sure to establish your bank account in Japan and register it from MyWaseda (portal system for students).

Disqualification
The scholarship recipient will be deemed ineligible for the scholarship, and will have to pay back scholarship funds already received in full or in part, if any of the following conditions apply:

- The student takes a leave of absence or withdraws from his/her home university.
- The student withdraws from the AIMS Program during his/her study abroad period at Waseda.
Upon returning to his/her home country, the student must pay back \40,000 for every month they were not enrolled in Waseda University. If the student was enrolled for less than half a month for one of those months, then that time will be regarded as one full month.
- The student lied on his/her application, or if the student does anything that is considered improper for a scholarship recipient.
