This was our final book in our Rainbow Study.
Mixed by .
This amazing book delves into important topics such as segregation, inclusivity, colour, tolerance and radical acceptance. Areas I absolutely looooove tackling with little kids.
We role played peace making scenarios, talked about race positivity and the different colours ppl come in.
And then we played A LOT with colour mixing!

Tasty math class!
Fruit Loops were a nice way to bring in colour graphing. Perfect for our Rainbow Study.
When Phonics came along we also found a way to incorporate the 🌈 theme!

Our next book in our Rainbow Study was How the Crayons Saved the Rainbow by Monica Sweeney.
In this book we took a deep dive into the idea of how colours can match and influence our feelings a bit like chakra healing. Kids chose feelings and matched a colour to it (pink=love, green= sick etc...) We made a feeling chart and they also painted their image of anger and happiness.
The book also deals with conflict resolution between the sun and clouds and problem solving by the Crayons.
*These are important points to stop at in the book and discuss ideas and solutions before reading on.
Lastly we enjoyed a few story retellings of the book by using the story sequencing poster.

During our Rainbow Study we used some amazing books to anchor the theme.
Our first book was an all time favourite The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister.
We enjoyed reading and watching this story and spoke about sharing and listening to your intuition.
We also touched on math, science and design with this book.
