We are incredibly proud of these two students. Not only did they successfully complete the “100 Domes in 100 Days” project ahead of schedule, but they also carried out the deployment of their reef domes and carefully planted multiple coral species with proper technique. What makes this even more remarkable is that they achieved all of this as Grade 6 students. 🫶🏼💙
Special thanks to P’Tank for the guidance, supervision, and for ensuring their safety throughout the entire process. 💙🫶🏼

We are proud to share that our DEEP Marine Science students, with the unwavering support of their incredible parents and the guidance of P’ Tank’s and Ajarn Prasan’s Marine Science and Conservation Camp, have successfully completed the “100 Domes in 100 Days” Coral Reef Restoration Project. 🫶🏼💙
This initiative represents months of dedication, collaboration, and hands-on environmental stewardship. Through this project, students actively engaged in marine conservation by constructing reef domes designed to serve as artificial reef structures that support coral growth and create new habitats for marine life. 💙
In partnership with the Royal Thai Navy, these reef domes will soon be deployed around the Samaesarn Islands, where they will contribute to rebuilding reef ecosystems and promoting biodiversity in the Gulf of Thailand. 🇹🇭
Projects like this demonstrate the power of education, community partnership, and youth leadership in addressing real environmental challenges. Our students are not only learning about marine science—they are becoming active stewards of the ocean and future leaders in conservation. 🌊🐠
Well done to our DEEP students and families for turning knowledge into action and making a lasting impact on our oceans. 🫶🏼💙🇹🇭

Today, DEEP students successfully completed the deployment of artificial reef domes using controlled lift-bag techniques to ensure precision, safety, and minimal environmental impact. The activity demonstrated the students’ applied understanding of buoyancy, teamwork, and responsible marine engineering practices in a real-world conservation setting. We extend our sincere appreciation to the crew of MV Manta Ray for their professional support and for ensuring that the entire deployment process was conducted smoothly and safely. 🫶🏼💙

Hi! I’m Victoria Alisa Dixon or Vicky for short. I’m a university student who is going to be studying at the University of Technology Sydney; however, I’m currently interning at my alma mater to pass the time. To give some context, I’ve been scuba diving ever since I was ten, and I was in the Deep Environmental Education Program (DEEP) for over five years. Through both of my mentors in DEEP and my family, I’ve accomplished some pretty amazing things. Let me walk you through them. ☺️
I was born into a family of divers, so I was always expected to become one. Call it the self-fulfilling prophecy if you will. And at the ripe age of 10, I started my diving career. It’s safe to say that I wasn’t the best: struggling to control my breathing, finding it difficult to manage my buoyancy device, and overall struggling to find the joy that was promised to me. Only going on diving trips because my parents were going, never because I actually wanted to go.
But I did try my best to fit in by going on the dives. I just had a very different approach to others; instead of admiring the beauty of the corals or the patterns of fishes, I was counting down the time before I could surface. To be fair, it did work for a couple of years, but I never understood why my parents and dive leaders couldn’t wait to get back into the water when I couldn’t wait to get back to land.
That all changed when my father got me a TG-5, an underwater camera with its housing. It was as if a light had switched on, and somebody was finally home: ready to answer the door with every knock. Sure, adapting to using a camera underwater wasn’t as instantaneous as switching on a light, but the flickering of light was there. Every dive after getting the camera was a learning progress. But bit by bit, I finally got my breathing under control and mostly got the hang of my buoyancy device. And as if someone wished upon a star, I finally understood why my peers were eager to get back into the water. 😁
Within those two years span, of getting my certificate and my camera, I’ve only ever dived with my dad. My dad worked abroad so the window of time when I was able to go diving again was very long, and my mother was busy. To make it worse, I didn’t have the guts to call up a dive centre and book a day of diving with them. So I waited. Eventually, that waiting turned my attention to a dive club at my school. The very dive club called DEEP. 🫶🏼
The DEEP club started when I was around 13 years old. Although I couldn’t join the first academic year that the club started, it still didn’t matter. I was able to rest my little 13-year-old wired-up brain as I was finally able to go diving with people that I call my friends. ❤️Moreover, I didn’t have to call a dive centre to book a dive, I just had to ask Mr. Chris Aquino (and my father) really nicely. As the club grew each year, we were able to learn the basics of scientific diving and the possible ways to potentially protect our oceans. 💙🌏
Now I can’t say this for everyone, but the DEEP club made me into a more meticulous person when it comes to diving. My fins had to be in the correct position, I had to make sure I had perfect spacial awareness, my buoyancy had to be neutral and at trim at all times, and I had to start looking out for others as they may pose a threat to themselves, others, or the environment. But needless to say, I enjoy the strict rules our club had when it comes to diving, as not only does it speak to the club’s integrity of protecting our oceans, but also because it allows every member to truly enjoy their dive.
If I were to say how much this club has impacted my life for the better, I would be here writing for years, and possibly publishing a novel. So I’ll keep the long story short: the DEEP Dive Program opened my eyes to the wonders of the ocean, so much so, that as a university student, I’ll be majoring in marine biology and climate change. Just so that I could have a chance to be on the frontlines protecting our oceans, so future generations can understand the joy of such a beautiful and fascinating place. 🌏💙💚
