Introducing a new advice series! These are hot takes that ought to be known more widely.

Your major matters more than your university. While Harvard and Stanford may sound impressive on paper, still ahead of them are some very everyday sounding colleges that specialize in fields which generally confer higher ROI (Return on Investment).

Harvey Mudd College, in southern California, for example, tops PayScale’s ROI list of private colleges and Forbes’s 25 best colleges for ROI. This is because it graduates students into engineering, math and sciences, with huge emphasis on job placement. Other schools that top these lists include other engineering schools as well as Babson, a business only college.

That’s not to say that no one in other majors makes money, or that students from selective schools in non-technical majors always make less than engineers. But if you’re looking at probability, you have a greater probability of earning more from a well ranked, but not elite, institution with a technology emphasis than an elite one with a liberal arts emphasis.

They’ll teach you that literature is not about boring old men sitting in a university library but they are filled to the brim with life and travails, all expressed in very simple language which packed a hefty punch! This is a great advice I often give my students. Be nice and kind to your reader. They have to read a lot of essay, so start as close to the singularity as possible to make sure you get to the interesting part as soon as possible. That's how you engage the essay reader and show them how different and unique your vision is.
