What's happening in babies' brains during musical experiences? Big things!

When you sing, bounce, dance, and play with music, in class or at home, at least eight areas of baby's brain are activated at the same time! Here's a peek into what happens in babies' brains during music experiences:

Auditory Cortex: When your baby hears you sing, the auditory cortex processes sound waves, helping them recognize and differentiate between sounds, which is key to language development.

Visual Cortex: As your baby watches you move, the visual cortex processes light waves, aiding in the development of visual tracking and depth perception.

Motor Cortex: When your baby moves their arms, legs, or tongue during music, the motor cortex is activated, strengthening coordination and fine motor skills.

Amygdala: Music stimulates the amygdala, where your baby’s emotional responses are processed, fostering emotional bonding and social connections.

Cerebellum: Movement during music lights up the cerebellum, which is essential for developing balance, posture, and motor control.

Hippocampus: Music experiences enhance the hippocampus's ability to store and retrieve memories, supporting early learning and memory development.

Corpus Callosum: Music activates the corpus callosum, which connects the two sides of the brain, promoting better communication and coordination between the brain’s hemispheres.

By engaging in music with your baby, you're not just having fun—you’re supporting their brain development in powerful ways. Start making music together today and watch them grow!
