Architectural Heritage, Creative Industries and Tourism Management

Congratulations to Associate Professor Dr Kreangkrai Kirdsiri, International Program Director in Architectural Heritage, Creative Industries and Tourism Management for receiving the ORG research grant from Thailand Science Research and Innovation – TSRI.

This research will analyse multidimensional challenges that require knowledge and understanding from people in society, with the goal of "closing the knowledge gap" in eight key areas. The goal is achieved through the selection of important books that help develop literacy, critical thinking, and the ability to cope with change. This differs from previous research conducted by Associate Professor Witayakorn Chiangkoon, which focused on literary works, and by Dr Winai Pongsripiang, which focused on ancient documents that had not yet been studied and deciphered.

However, this research focuses on reviewing the current challenges, which include numerous sub-issues, and has been categorised into eight key challenges, which are

1. 🌱 Environmental Challenges — Climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, and resource depletion.

2. 🤝 Social Challenges — Poverty, inequality, food insecurity, access to health and education.

3. 💼 Economic Challenges — New economies (bio/circular/orange economy), future jobs, and changing consumer behaviour.

4. 💻 Technological and Digital Challenges — Digital divide, cyber threats, fake news, AI, and technological ethics.

5. ❤️ Health and Well-Being Challenges — Epidemics, health crises, and an ageing society.

6. 🏛️ Political and Governance Challenges — Good governance and human rights.

7. 🌐 Geopolitical Challenges — Power competition, maritime security, energy, and Thai-ASEAN relations.

8. 🇹🇭 Thai Pride in Cultural Diversity — Local history, traditional wisdom, and cultural heritage of ethnic groups in Thailand.

Even in an era where AI can provide ready-made answers in seconds and algorithms filter what we see... empowering people through "reading" remains the best tool for training critical thinking, questioning, and connecting knowledge to address these challenges ✨ and is part of extending UNESCO's "Open Science" concept to "Open Knowledge", aligning with the Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI) policy of Thailand Open Science for ALL.

Around 10% of the world’s population lives in or around UNESCO-designated sites. These areas are not only home to exceptional biodiversity and cultural heritage. They also sustain livelihoods, preserve traditions and support local economies.
