From Learning to Making — From Making to Meaning ✨🚀

What started as a workshop… became a two-week journey of creativity, collaboration, and real impact 🌏 🇸🇬

At the CIS KMUTT, 1st and 3rd year students from DIPs KMUTT and the CIS team worked closely with Melvin Goh (Lecturer from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore 🇸🇬 whose experience in digital media and interaction design brought new ways of seeing and making)

Together, they explored interaction design through hands-on learning—experimenting with AI 🤖, QR-based systems, and digital sensing 🎮

It wasn’t always easy.
There were long hours ⏳, messy tables, constant testing, and rethinking but also laughter, teamwork, and moments of breakthrough 💡

And then… the ideas came to life.

Sparky Satun evolved from a simple card game 🃏 into a playful interactive experience ✨ where children don’t just play, but learn, engage, and connect with their community 🌱

Presented at the Satun Creative Fest (3–5 April 2026) 🎉 this project shows what happens when design moves beyond the classroom.

At CIS & DIPs KMUTT learning is not just about making—
it’s about understanding where design comes from.

CIS was honored to welcome 🇸🇬 Patricia Lim from Singapore to share her insights on Hybrid Design: Culture, Identity & Material Culture 🎓
A session that took students from DIPs KMUTT beyond form and aesthetics—into the deeper layers of history, culture, and adaptation. This a part of DIP 222 Psychological and Cognitive Human.

From Peranakan artifacts 🧵 to the transformation of neoclassical furniture in tropical contexts 🪑🌿 to the everyday experience of Ya Kun Kaya Toast ☕🥪 students explored how design evolves when cultures meet, blend, and reinterpret.

This is where design becomes alive—
✨ shaped by context and culture condition
✨ influenced by identity
✨ transformed through everyday life

More than a lecture, this was a shift in perspective—
a reminder that great design is not created in isolation,
but through culture, context, and connection 🤝

🌏✨ From Local Craft to Global Design, at BDW 2026!

▶️ From Singapore Design Week to BDW2026 — the journey continues.

What began as a collaborative leather craft workshop at Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP), Singapore in 2025, has grown into a cross-cultural exhibition at Klongsan MAKE, Bangkok Design Week 2026, celebrating creativity, craftsmanship, and global connection.

Co-led by Master Instructor Pote Nilsa-Ard (KMUTT) and Artisan-Designer Yang Tah Ching (NPoly), the project introduced NP students to Thai leathercraft techniques and surface design innovation — all supported by passionate dips students from SOA+D, KMUTT, who played a key role in co-facilitating and co-presenting the experience.

The exhibition proudly showcases student works from school of Design & Environment, NP, from handmade trays to experimental design — reflecting the power of lifelong learning, the habit of making, and the beauty of design exchange.
