"From Blueprint to Reality: Math in Action!"

Today, the Grade 8 Math classroom was transformed into a hub of creativity and practical learning as students explored the fascinating concepts of floor plans, scale, and model-making. Armed with rulers, graph paper, and an eye for detail, they designed scaled floor plans and prepared to bring their visions to life by crafting 3D models. This hands-on activity not only enhanced their understanding of mathematical concepts but also demonstrated their creativity and problem-solving skills.

Parent Classroom: “Living with Teenagers with a Calm Mind.”
Last Saturday, Roong Aroon International School organized a “Parent Classroom” focusing on the intriguing topic of “Living with Teenagers with a Calm Mind.” We were honored to have Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suriyadev Tripathi, Director of the Center for Morality (Public Organization), as our guest speaker. He provided valuable insights and answered various questions from parents in a warm and approachable manner.
The audience comprised 61 parents from both RAIS and RAS. A key takeaway that raised awareness among the parents was the understanding that adolescence is a critical turning point in children’s lives. During this period, children undergo significant changes in their bodies, brains, and hormonal systems. These transformations greatly influence their attitudes, values, and behaviors, which they must navigate and learn to manage on their own.
Parents need to be aware of the changes and challenges that children face at this age. By fostering understanding, parents are encouraged to break old habits and build new, healthier relationships with their children. Viewing problems as opportunities for learning can create a safe and nurturing family environment, which helps establish mental stability for children and allows them to accumulate valuable life skills for future growth.

Here are some important guidelines for building strong relationships with your children:
1. Listen to your children attentively.
2. Reflect on their feelings.
3. “Sharpen your thoughts” by asking three key questions:
- How do you feel?
- What do you think, or what have you learned?
- What will you do next, or how will you solve this problem?

In addition to school, the family plays a crucial role in encouraging children at this age to navigate life smoothly. It helps them understand themselves, develop discipline, and manage their emotions with self-respect and confidence. Moreover, instilling morality as a foundational principle is essential for making informed decisions and solving various problems, allowing children to reach their highest potential. Key elements in this process are relationships and communication that demonstrate trust, love, and respect for one another.
Additionally, parents have provided suggestions on topics they are interested in and would like the school to continue organizing. These topics include raising teenagers in various aspects, such as s*x education, managing disappointment, fostering positive communication, and adapting to society and the environment.

On 25th November, Roong Aroon International school had a valuable experience in welcoming teachers and students from Tomeikan Gakuen Secondary School and Japanese NGOs of Terra Renaissance from Japan. Our RAIS. students had opportunities to accompany and assist Japanese students learn about Thai cultures such as making Khon ornaments, joining telling Thai folktales story through shadow puppet techniques, arranging flower mandalas for Buddha figures, and having Thai snacks and lunch. Moreover, they were also able to understand the learning style of Roong Aroon International School through visiting ARt, Music and STEM studio and learning about STEM projects. Both Tomeikan Gakuen Secondary School and Roong Aroon International school have a common purpose of this visit to enhance intercultural exchange, international understanding, and creation of cultural exchange programs in the future .

“… I went to help teach the Japanese student that came to visit our school because I have free time and I think it would be a very interesting experience. I teach them how to make jewelry and share our culture with them. I meet new friends and try to communicate with them even though it is a little bit hard because they don’t know english. But I think it was a very fun experience for me. If possible, I would like a program or something like this again. It is very fun to talk to all of them. I also want to get closer to them too. Finally, I want to say thank you to them very much for visiting our country, I hope they have a very wonderful time here…”

Suphapit Vongusavanaruemol (Cha-Aim), (G.7)

“...Cultural exchange is a good way to engage and welcome guests from abroad, representing our Thai culture through puppeteering Thai folktales, it was a fun experience to see how engaged our guests were in our culture. We also found that there was a connection to their culture in the portrayal of their most famous stars “Subaru, which was the same with our Thailand’s Doa Look G*i. Such a program explored how different cultures had something in common, such that we made stories and beliefs based on their surroundings like the stars in the night sky..”

After, We had a chance to experiences hands on about sewing khon's costume, students see that effort in creating something valuable ; it takes time, patience, knowledge, experiences, collaboration and putting in heart.

While observing the philosophies and way of life through initiative farms. Our students finds out about the connection between farm and khon. How things are connnected in term of factual and conceptual.

Through the process of this field study, Our students acquired the essence of being a person with a big heart, a heart that recognizes the value of what they do and able to share this goodness on to others, not only for their own benefit.

Our U13-15 boys' Football team concluded a successful BISAL season yesterday with a well-deserved third-place finish at the tournament hosted by a fellow BISAL school. The team's journey, which began in August, showcased their hard work and dedication to balancing academics and athletics. We are incredibly proud of their achievements.
While we missed the contributions of some long-standing players due to illness or age restrictions, the team rallied together and delivered a strong performance. We will continue to play friendly Football matches and look forward to cheering on our student-athletes who will represent RAIS Lions in Basketball and Badminton next year. #โรงเรียนานาชาติรุ่งอรุณ #โรงเรียนนานาชาติพระราม2

On 12th and 15th November, Grade 10 students were invited by Jump Foundation to perform shadow puppets and to design and organize a mini workshop showcasing Thai culture, specifically focusing on Thai folktales. The students performed a shadow puppet, which derived from their learning experience from Ubon Ratchathani province field study in a previous month, for Stamford American International School, Singapore students.

This event provided a valuable opportunity for our students to practice communication and organizing skills and to assist foreign students learn more about Thai folktales, symbolic art, script, and performance techniques which included both verbal and nonverbal communication.

“...Being a workshop instructor is a wonderful experience that allows me to meet new people, build endurance and resilience, and manage time effectively. The students’ energy made me so happy, and I truly enjoyed exchanging cultures with them even though it’s challenging to adjust to various situations. It also gave me a deeper appreciation for the power of creativity and collaboration in bridging cultural differences…”

Yada Nikomrat ( Moomee), G 10

“...Teaching students at Stamford was a special and unforgettable experience. Their enthusiasm and creativity made the whole workshop feel like more than just teaching, it became a chance to connect, learn, and grow together. For me, this experience helped me build confidence in sharing my culture, adapt to new ideas, and realize how art can bring people from different backgrounds closer.

Thank you for letting me share this experience with you. It was such a joy to work together. I will always look back on this as an extraordinary moment…”

Panidaras Suwanwong stad ( Leen), G10

“...Cultural exchange is one way to build a strong connection. My experience of sharing Thailand’s cultures through shadow puppets and hosting a workshop was amazing. The students from Stamford American International School were focused and energetic. They were open to learning new things. We both learned each other's cultures, bringing us closer. They showed me how the power of collaboration and communication will help overcome challenges and bring happiness to others. This experience showed me the importance of sustaining traditions, arts, and cultures of our own and appreciating them…”

Our Grade 10 students had a meaningful real-life experience during an overnight field study at Tamui Village in Ubon Ratchathani Province. Before their field study, they explored the true meaning and the moral lessons embedded in Thai idioms and Thai folktales, and also had experience learning about the cultural and social contexts of these elements.

The field study of a Thai subject took place on 14th - 18th October at a local village, where they could learn, particularly in relation to Isan traditions and the Naga Fireball Festival. The unit was integrated with the Arts subject, allowing students to use their shadow puppets as a tool to tell the story in Thai subject and perform symbolic art representations of the Naga story for the village audience. They also took part in Buddhism culture by participating in traditions such as offering food to monks and praying. A significant highlight was the creation and floating of their fireboats to pay respect to the Lord Buddha, river goddess, and ancestors.

This experiential learning allowed the students to be active participants in the field study process and connect with the villagers by learning to adjust themselves to approach and communicate with others. It helped nurture good relationships among them. Through their field study learning, they engaged in direct experience and focused reflection in order to increase knowledge, develop skills, and clarify values.

“...Spending even a short time in that community helped me understand how to find happiness in the little things. We don't need to play games or go to amusement parks to have fun. Trying to live according to the local way of life was tiring but enjoyable at the same time. Learning about weaving was fun and fascinating. Hiking was exhausting but a rewarding experience, and playing with the children revealed just how much I had overlooked the simple joys in life. The kids there could find happiness easily. I was playing with the children one day, and they were playing with leaves for a very long time, and they were delighted. It made me realize that if we learn to view the world from a fresh perspective, we can experience that kind of simple happiness too…”

Beyond experiencing joy in that community, we also had the chance to bring a little happiness to them through a puppet performance. Not only did the performance allow us to try and practice new skills, but it also helped build connections with the villagers. It was a way to show respect for the values, culture, and beliefs of the community.…”

Celine Srihong, (Celine), G10

“...Exploring the Tamui community allowed me to meet the villagers and learn about the livelihoods and occupations within the community. I enjoyed the experience of opening myself to new perspectives, especially meeting the children who introduced us to different areas of the village. I also ventured into the forest to collect tree bark for dyeing cotton threads, which made me feel deeply connected to nature and appreciate the value of natural materials. Although trekking through the forest was challenging and made me feel like giving up at times, the experience taught me about nature and allowed me to appreciate the beauty and importance of the environment around me. It was truly rewarding to complete the journey.
Another activity we had the opportunity to participate in was building a Ruea Fai (fireboat). This activity clearly reflects the traditions and culture of the Tamui community. We learned every step of the process, from selecting materials and gathering bamboo from the forest to constructing the boat's frame and decorating it with kite paper and intricately designed fish ornaments. This process is also a form of craftsmanship. Building the Ruea Fai provided us with a chance to strengthen bonds with the local community, making it a memorable and enriching experience…”

Nichcha Limdumrongchit ( Kiki) , G10

People in each community live lives suited to their geography or natural surroundings. For example, the Tamui community lives in harmony with natural resources such as forests and rivers. This community possesses knowledge of various fishing methods, including fishing with rods and nets, and also relies on crabs and shellfish, which vary according to nature and the seasons. T“...he relationship between the people and nature is a positive one, leading to a beautiful society where people help, care for, and protect nature together.

Building good relationships with the locals wouldn't have been possible if they hadn't welcomed me. However, what I witnessed was the villagers warmly greeting us, smiling, and being very friendly. I noticed a group of elderly men weaving fish traps for the end-of-lent tradition, so I approached them to chat and asked them to teach me how to weave. Speaking the Isan dialect with them made the experience even more enjoyable for all of us. After that day, we developed a good bond with the villagers, who continued teaching us many things.

I am deeply grateful to the villagers for sharing their knowledge, being so warm and friendly, and welcoming us so kindly…”

Artinun Ngaosuwan (Arty), G10

When coming to part 2 of the unit of Thai roots and traditions, Thai Language, Culture, and History subject, G. 11 students continuously researched the Tribhumi literature which additionally had a substantial influence on Thai people and society throughout history. The students tracked the origin of the literature of Tribhumi and learned that it was written in the Sukhothai era during Phraya Lithai. Hence, on November 7 -11, our Grade 11 students had their field study at the historical park, old city, and museum in Sukhothai province for a deeper learning process. Students not only gained a better understanding about Sukhothai history, they also explored the Sukhothai Era through the historical evidence and practiced implementing chronological thinking, historical comprehension, and interpretation based on analysis of the historians. During the field study, the students learned about Sukhothai's significance as the center of trade, the glory of Buddhism, and the wisdom of its people in water resources management at that time.

..

“…This unit we have learnt about Tribhumi that originates from the Sukhothai Era. When we went to Sukhothai province for field study, we noticed that Tribhum beliefs were implemented in the ancient city plan of Sukhothai. The plan of the city was in a rectangle shape, influenced by the Khmer symmetrical city plan. There’s a Maha That stupa at the center of the city referred to as Sineru Mount, and other elements such as the monastery wall, gates and canals did come together to represent the universe plan.

I also learned that Sukhothai people's wisdom of water resources management played a significant role in the past. The reason that UNESCO has announced Sukhothai Kingdom as a world heritage is not just because of its long time historical site or well known Sangkhalok ware but its excellence in its irrigation system.

This made me see the connection between belief and Sukhothai people’s wisdom. They together created an extraordinary identity for the Sukhothai Kingdom..”

Palat Ruengsomboon (์Nuer), G. 11

..

“...As a foreigner, I didn't know of Shukothai before going on field study. I was surprised at how well preserved the ruins in Sukhothai were compared to ruins in other places. I learned that the way pottery was made, decorated and designed differed from its local material or place of origin, for example; pottery from China was white with blue painting whereas pottery from Sukhothai was gray with black painting.

While studying about Sukhothai I also learned that the Kings of Thailand in the past had a lot of power over Buddhist temples, even deciding which statues to keep or not. The field study was an overall good experience for me as I got to learn more about Thailand's history and also explored an area of Thailand I hadn't been to before…”

Imagine Smith (Immi), G 11

..

“...In this field study, It’s different from the topics or the tasks that we needed to do in other field study when it came to the history and culture of Sukhothai Kingdom. At first, I didn't expect that it required many skills in studying history. We needed to gather all the key points together, but it’s much more than that.

The historian whom we learned with, lectured each topic and connected to another topic about the places, times and events. At that time, we found that it was very hard to find a focus and arranged all the information learned properly. So, this was a very important learning lesson for us. We have learned that chronological thinking is very crucial and we can implement it through the use of a timeline, which is a very important tool in studying history or even to find cause and consequences of any situation ....”

JIdapa Thassathan ( Aim), G11
